Ex-Premier League footballer Dean Windass made bankrupt

Former Premier League footballer Dean Windass has been made bankrupt over a £150,000 tax debt.

A judge made the bankruptcy order against the 47-year-old Hull City legend at a hearing in London following an application from HM Revenue and Customs.

He was not at the hearing and was not represented by a lawyer.

Windass made more than 600 appearances and scored more than 200 goals in an 18-year career.

The Hull-born striker played for more than half a dozen clubs, including Bradford City, Middlesbrough, Sheffield United and Aberdeen.

In 2008 he scored the winning goal in the Wembley play-off final which saw Hull City promoted to the top flight for the first time in their history.

He has spoken openly about his battle with alcohol and depression following his retirement from football in 2010.
