A dentist has rejected claims he faked his own death in a car crash to make a £1.75m life insurance claim.
Neil McClaren, 46, formerly of Barnstaple, Devon, denied six fraud charges at Exeter Crown Court.
It is alleged Mr McClaren assumed a fresh identity and moved to Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, after a staged crash in Amman, Jordan.
His wife Anabella McClaren, 40, and her sister Nikoletta Theodoropoulou, 41, also deny six counts of fraud.
The court heard that the charges relate to a total of 15 life insurance policies of Emmanouil Parisis, Mr McClaren's previous name.
The case against the three defendants, who are all Greek nationals, was adjourned until 6 December.
Mr McClaren was remanded in custody and the two women were released on bail.
