Jersey waterfront development 'cannot be delayed'

Delays in developing Jersey's waterfront could prevent the island from getting new business, the Council of Ministers say.

The council has rejected a request from St John deputy Phil Rondel to stop development work until Jersey's economy improves significantly.

The council wants to cut services and spending to save £50m over the next three years to help.

But it told Mr Rondel that, despite this, new offices were still needed.

The council argued that office space planned in the development would be needed as new companies came to the island, and delays in being able to offer it could discourage them from setting up in the island.
