More than 100 soldiers from the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment marched through Kendal to a service of thanksgiving.
The Freedom Parade, which involved soldiers marching with fixed bayonets, was followed by a service at Kendal Parish Church.
It is the first time the regiment has exercised its right to the Freedom of Kendal since July 1980.
The regiment' s forerunner, the King's Own Royal Border Regiment, was granted the Freedom of Kendal in 1947.
Maj Michael Brandwood, the Duke of Lancaster's county secretary, added: "It has been over 30 years since the regiment exercised the Freedom of the Town of Kendal.
"It is a great privilege and honour that we have been invited to parade and the day will serve to cement Kendal's close links with the regiment."
