A holidaymaker and his dog have died after getting into difficulty in the sea.
A lifeboat crew pulled the man, named locally as Trevor Priest, 63, from the water near Tintagel in Cornwall.
Mr Priest, from near Stratford-upon-Avon, is thought to have gone into the water after his dog. He died later in hospital, said police.
Juliet Short wrote on Facebook: "Trevor was one in a million never a bad word or an unhappy face."
Sharon Barrett wrote: "Your warmth, sincerity and infectious fun will be greatly missed."
The accident happened on Tuesday afternoon near Dunderhole Point, said Port Isaac RNLI which carried out the rescue attempt.
Lifeboat operations manager Chris Bolton said: "So often an owner goes into the water after a dog and the dog gets out alive, but on this occasion that didn't happen."
