
The Air Accident Investigation Branch is deploying a team to investigate the accident
A light aircraft pilot died following a crash at Newquay Cornwall Airport.
The Piper PA-34 Seneca twin-engined plane crashed off the runway on approach from London, according to Devon and Cornwall Police.
The pilot, 68, whose family have been informed, was the only person onboard and was believed to live locally.
The airport closed following the accident at 19:35 BST on Monday and reopened at 06:00 BST. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said the airport is now operating as normal and passengers are advised to check-in as planned.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch confirmed it was sending a team to Cornwall, external to investigate the accident.
An airport spokesperson said: "The Airport is assisting Devon and Cornwall Police and the Air Accident Investigation Branch with their investigation.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the pilot at this very sad time."
