Besiris was sentenced to 14 months in jail during the hearing at Bristol Crown Court
A graduate with a first-class honours degree in politics has been jailed for 14 months for violent disorder during protests in Bristol last year.
Patrick Besiris, 21, was arrested at his home in Staple Hill in the city.
Besiris threw rocks at police during the disturbances last April as police tried to arrest a man in Stokes Croft.
After pleading guilty to his part in the violence the court allowed him to finish his course at the University of the West of England before sentencing.
Troubled childhood
The violence broke out as protesters clashed with police, after a party, publicised through Facebook, had been cancelled.
The court was told Besiris had Attention Deficit Disorder, was bi-polar and had also experienced a troubled childhood.
But the judge heard that he had turned his fortunes around, succeeding at A-Level and then university.
He had also secured a lucrative job at a company in Sweden which had now been lost as a result of the conviction.
It is understood that Besiris will be eligible for parole after serving seven months in jail.
A total of 40 convictions have been made by police from the large group involved in the disturbances.
