M6 crash driver missing three weeks after barrier smash

Police are searching for a driver who has not been seen since smashing through a motorway barrier and abandoning his car three weeks ago.

Zahid Mirza, 40, from Chelmsley Wood, crashed on the M6 between junctions 4A and 5 on the 15 January.

Det Supt Tom Chisholm said: "We have now learned that Mr Mirza's family have had no contact with him since then, so we are very concerned for his safety."

Police are concerned he may have come to harm and are searching near the M6.

Mr Chisholm said: "At the time of the collision a search was made of the immediate area, but there was no trace of the driver."

Mr Mirza is 5ft 9ins tall with a stocky build. He has short dark hair and wears glasses.

Anyone who has seen him since 15 January was asked to call West Midlands Police.
