The first train to emerge from a £6m refurbishment programme is to be unveiled next week.
East Midlands Trains is upgrading all its 27 Meridian trains.
The firm said public feedback had played a large role in the changes, which include new seat covers and additional luggage and buggy space.
The refit is part of a £30m programme of carriage refits and is being carried out in Derby.
A spokesman for the company said: "Feedback from passengers and staff has also resulted in a change to the design of litter bins to make it easier for passengers to dispose of their rubbish.
"And the overhead luggage racks have also seen a modification to keep passengers' luggage safe and secure during their trip."
The new-look train will travel to London and back on Monday.
