Snow and freezing winds are causing disruption across parts of the UK. The Met Office has issued yellow "be aware" warnings in Scotland and most of England, with up to 10cm (4in) of snow expected in some eastern areas. A farmer near Allenheads, Northumbria, battles through snow with feed to his livestock.
Heavy snow across the Channel Islands saw Jersey, Guernsey and Alderney airports close. Officials at Guernsey Airport, shown here, said the decision was taken after forecasts of further heavy snow.

While temperatures of 1C to 2C would be common, the wind chill factor will mean it feels more like -8C to -5C, she said.

Drivers across England have faced treacherous conditions with numerous accidents reported including in Hexham, Northumberland, where a car ended up in a ditch.

Ruth Grover from Westgate, Weardale, Co Durham, sent this picture to the BBC. “I just looked out of my kitchen window this morning and it looked lovely. Bright, sunny, very cold and a lot of thick lying snow.," she said.
Traffic comes to a standstill on the A264 in Crawley, West Sussex. The RAC said it was expecting call-outs to increase by a fifth over the next few days, with RAC spokesman Pete Williams warning motorists they should "proceed with caution".
