Every week we publish a gallery of readers' pictures on a set theme. This week the theme was back to work and we start with an image by Lizzie Pridmore: "My first day back at the office after the Christmas and New Year break, recorded in cups of tea."

Michael Whittington: "A study group working hard on laptops with a very 'healthy' snack on standby for the peckish."

Megan Jackson: "On returning to university, my friend and I found that frozen fountains had made 'ice volcanoes'. By breaking off ice marbles formed by the falling water and throwing them into the volcano's 'cone' we discovered a great way to avoid work."

Pramod Kanakath: "Two lifeguards busy with their work after the Christmas and New Year holidays. The pictures were taken at a beach in the southern tip of India."

Andres Villaveces: "My officemate posing at her desk in Geneva, Switzerland. We threw a bunch of papers on her and took the picture as they were falling. It was our way of conveying that resigned feeling you get sometimes when you are back at work."

Peter Kyte: "This is a police officer doing her job in Parliament square. I compressed the image with a long focal length so there is a lot of urban clutter around her, including moving vehicles and political slogans."

Pauline Richardson: "Commuters in Shanghai heading to work by bike."

Jorge Sanz: "Christmas is over and in this bakery of Almazan it is necessary to begin to make candies.."

Sally Sallett: "Well, the holidays are over so it's out with the boot polish!"

Azghar Khazi-Syed: "This picture of leaf cutter ants is at the insectarium in New Orleans. The ants carrying these enormous pieces of of leaf up a vertical wood limb back to their colony summed up the burden of going back work after a nice break."

Laurent Nangniot: "My friend Juan reminiscing on his family on his first day of work." If you'd like to enter, send your pictures to [email protected]. Details of themes and terms can be seen on the photo blog - just follow the link below this gallery.
