Jeremy Kyle is said to be recovering after receiving treatment for testicular cancer.

The presenter, 47, has taken a break from recording his ITV daytime chat show as he recuperates abroad.

He is understood to have had chemotherapy following the discovery of a growth late last year.

The married father of four has hosted The Jeremy Kyle Show for more than seven years.

ITV have said they are glad he is "making such good progress".

A spokeswoman added: "We hope that he is back on his feet soon and look forward to him returning to work when he is ready."

The former salesman hosted programmes on local radio, Capital FM and on Virgin Radio before landing his TV slot after Trisha Goddard left her daytime ITV series to head to Channel 5.

Last week The Jeremy Kyle Show was nominated for the best daytime TV show award at the National Television Awards, although it missed out to This Morning.

The twice-married presenter has also launched the programme in the United States and has fronted other shows for ITV.

On the show's website Jeremy Kyle said he always tells people on the show what he thinks, as he believes it is important to sort problems out.

"We've only got one life, it's not a rehearsal," he said.

The London-born presenter has also spoken about how his job gives him perspective on his own life.

"I often tell myself that I must never complain again about not getting enough kip, or something minor going wrong," he said.
