The fiance of former EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy has been charged with beating her up.

Adam Cottrell, 31, will appear in court accused of two offences of assault by beating and two offences of criminal damage, Hertfordshire police said.

Emergency services were called on Sunday evening following reports of a violent row at the couple's home.

Officers say Cottrell will appear at East Hertfordshire Magistrates Court next Tuesday, 31 May.

A police spokesman said: "Adam Cottrell, 31, of no fixed abode, has been charged with two offences of assault by beating and two offences of criminal damage."

The pair have a baby daughter, Eliza, and were due to marry later this year.

Cassidy played Sonia Jackson in EastEnders before leaving the series in 2007.

The 28-year-old briefly rejoined the BBC soap in February 2010 before making another appearance earlier this year.

As well as starring in reality show Natalie Cassidy: Becoming Mum on Channel 4, she has released a top-selling fitness DVD.
