Doom and gloom? Not for Carragher…
You know what? I sense there's still a lot of England fans feeling downbeat after the USA game.

David reckons England fans have loads of reasons to feel up-beat
So yes, it was a below-par performance… yes, they should have won… yes, Robert Green should have perhaps gone to Specsavers (other opticians are available)… and yes, six days is a long time to wait for the next game to put it right.
But we spoke to Jamie Carragher today and he said "the mood in the camp" was pretty good.
And even if he's fronting, it's still not as bad as everyone's making out and there are reasons to be optimistic. Sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin.
First of all, England are notoriously slow starters. They drew their first game at Italia 1990 and Euro 96, and yet on both occasions, they went on to reach the semi-finals.

There's nothing like a bit of face paint to get you feeling patriotic
Secondly, Algeria and Slovenia are very beatable.
And thirdly, Gareth Barry is due back soon, which will give England that much-needed balance in midfield.
But speaking to (adopt high-pitched Scouse voice here) "Carra", there is one concern - Ledley King's injury. It leaves them desperately short of cover at centre-back.
Still, the aim of this diary entry is to try and stoke up the passion again.
That, for me, was the main thing that was lacking at the weekend. If the fans don't have it, how can they expect the team to? The support is key to getting Rooney and co. back on track.

The England Band need to battle against the vuvuzelas to get heard
The England Band need to overcome the vuvuzelas (love them or hate them, they're here to stay) and keep playing their tunes - they're the engine room of the crowd.
The fans need to keep sporting their team colours and their wigs and keeping up the banter and the humour.
It's what makes us British, after all.
It'll be interesting to see how the squad rallies around Green in the next few days.
In my view, he shouldn't be given a hard time.
Keepers make mistakes - but he hasn't made all that many over his career. And he can make amends against Algeria.
Will Fabio be as forgiving? You'll only find out an hour before kick-off on Friday.

Wonder where these England fans are from?
