The UK government's being urged to intervene to ensure that workers on ferries from Portsmouth going to the Channel Islands are paid the minimum wage.
Two Labour MPs, Ian Mearns and Graham Morris have tabled a Commons motion criticising the decision of some operators to pay below the £7.50 an hour rate, with the services operating offshore.
They point out that public service workers in Jersey are set to get at least £9.75 an hour from this summer.
The motion mentions that in 2014 Condor Ferries paid Ukrainian stewards £2.46 per hour on lifeline ferry services from Portsmouth to Jersey and Guernsey.
The MPs are calling on the UK government to support moves to eradicate low pay for seafarers on outsourced public contracts.

The organisation has also put a deposit down on a Tyne class all-weather boat.
The independent Jersey lifeboat charity was launched by the former St Helier RNLI crew after a falling out with the RNLI.

Its intention is to provide a lifesaving service in Jersey waters. The inflatable boat will cost up to a £250,000 and the organisation will be raising money to maintain both vessels.
Earlier this week the RNLI criticised calls from Senator Sir Philip Bailhache for the States to pick one lifeboat operator.
