    There will be further showers overnight, perhaps with some hail and thunder in places.

    It will be occasionally breezy and colder than of late with perhaps a grass frost in some rural spots, or icy patches where showers have been.

    Minimum Temperature: 6C (43F).

    It will remain rather cloudy through Saturday with further heavy downpours at times, with a continue risk of thunder.

    It will be cold with an added wind chill from a brisk easterly wind. Maximum Temperature: 9C (48F).

    Sunday is likely to be colder and drier with frost by night and some sunshine by day.

    On Monday it will turn cloudier and windier, with rain possible later on Tuesday.

  4. Battered Alderney breakwater work may start 'next week'published at 16:34 GMT 5 January 2018

    Work to repair a damaged section of Alderney's breakwater can only take place once the weather and the sea conditions improve, possibly by next week, the States of Guernsey says.

    Storm Eleanor dislodged sections of masonry on the top of the upper wall both on the outside and inside of the Victorian structure.

    "Nothing can be done in the immediate short-term other than observe, but full on-site inspections will be completed as soon as it is safe to venture on to the breakwater, once the weather and the sea conditions improved," Guernsey States said.

    Condor says it's determined to minimise further disrupution to passengers this weekend, as weather and industrial action in France disrupt sailings.

    "We are dismayed that these factors, which are beyond our control, are once again, disrupting passengers and freight customers’ shipments and we understand they will naturally be very disappointed.

    "Condor Ferries is determined to minimise the effect these challenges have on passengers’ travel plans and our freight customers’ cargo shipments," CEO Paul Luxon said.

    Ports of Jersey will announce their short-term plans for the restaurant at Elizabeth Terminal next week.

    It's seeking a new tenant after plans for the ferry site's cafe were scrapped.

    Ports of Jersey had been planning to open a new smokehouse and craft beer restaurant called Terminal GBJ at the ferry terminal.

    The department says delays and over-ambition put a halt to the project.

    Saturday's Condor Liberation sailings to St Malo have been cancelled due to strike action by dockers in France.

    The company has amended tomorrow's schedule, with services still running from Poole to the islands.

    Sunday's Condor service between Jersey and St Malo is also cancelled due to the poor weather forecast.

    The manager of a new restaurant planned at Jersey's Elizabeth Terminal says he's gutted the scheme has been scrapped after more than four years of planning.

    The decision was announced on The Terminal GBJ Facebook page, external, the name given to the space where the restaurant was planned.

    They have been dropped following a breakdown in the relationship between The Ports of Jersey and the restaurant operators.

    "At the last moment, it was unfortunate that Ports of Jersey and ourselves could not reach a legal agreement that mirrored the agreement originally signed four years ago, and that either party was satisfied to be able to move forward with," the page said.

    Severe storms over the past days have taken their toll on Alderney's breakwater.

    Sections of masonry on the top of the upper wall both on the outside and the inside have been dislodged, States of Guernsey's Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management Services said.

    "The damage appears to be restricted to the first (landward) third of the breakwater which has been the site of damage and breaches in the past," it said.

    Exeter City's Guernsey-born goalkeeper James Hamon has joined National League South side Gloucester City on a 93-day loan.

    The 22-year-old, who has played nearly 30 games for the Grecians, has made just three starts for Exeter this season in the Checkatrade Trophy.

    Having trained with Gloucester on Thursday he will go straight into their squad for their match with Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.

    His departure comes after Exeter brought in Paul Jones on loan from Norwich City on Thursday.

    States of Jersey Police say the force is "a little embarrassed" after a photo of a staff member's leg was posted on Facebook in error.

    The photograph accompanied a message asking members of the public to be careful cycling as Storm Eleanor hit the island.

    Police said the photo was "accidentally uploaded".

    A politician is highlighting efforts to engage young people in politics after a law student from Guernsey was critical of efforts to engage with islanders.

    Joe Broughton, 24, said deputies should work harder to ignite interest in politics.

    Deputy Sarah Hansmann-Rouxel, elected for the first time in April 2016, said work - including school visits and arranging parliament viewings - were already ongoing.
