Jersey's finance industry has won an important legal case against the UK government.

The Court of Appeal ruled that the island can be counted as a third country when it comes to moving money.

Jersey's Law Officers described it as a landmark ruling for Jersey.

The case is important because it means Jersey finance houses can continue to move money into and out of the island without having restrictions put on it by the UK.

The Attorney General argued that the island should count as a third country and therefore have independence when it came to financial movements. But, the UK government argued that it should count as an internal jurisdiction - and therefore be more controlled by Westminster.

At the Court of Appeal, Lady Justice Arden said that in her judgement the UK was obliged to treat Jersey as a third country. The Attorney General said that it was important for the island that the matter has been put beyond doubt.
