The vice president of the Jersey Beekeepers' Association is warning members of the public after the discovery of a second large nest on the island.

John De Carteret says nests are "extremely difficult to see", illustrated by this latest discovery in a garden on Wellington Hill.

He said the discovery was important as it was a larger "secondary nest" of the invasive, bee-killing species, which needed to be identified before the end of the month, when he said queen hornets will leave the nest to create smaller, primary nests in the winter.

"Be vigilant, look up for the nests but also look down for the hornets because they feed on pollinators at this time of the year."

"They're everywhere really, unfortunately for us," he added.

Guernsey FC head coach Colin Fallaize says the club is "trying to swim against the tide" following five successive defeats.

Guernsey were beaten 1-0 by Corinthian Casuals on Saturday and have not avoided defeat since the opening-day, but Fallaize has backed manager Tony Vance.

An appeal had been started by Jersey's Bailiff to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Irma.

The hurricane rampaged across the Caribbean last week and hit the US state of Florida on Sunday.

It has now been downgraded to a tropical storm.

Jersey's Bailiff, Sir William Bailhache, said an "international response" to the disaster would ensure "immediate support" for the countries affected.

"For Jersey, we can help by supporting projects that will follow and help communities rebuild, particularly communities lacking key infrastructure and finance." he added.

The Bailiff said any public donations would be matched by Jersey Overseas Aid on a "pound for pound" basis, capping at £100,000.

Vintage planes expected to take part in Guernsey and Jersey's air displays on Thursday took to the skies over the weekend at The Scampton Airshow.

The aircraft had previously been grounded after engine problems, but now it appears weather may halt them flying over the Channel Islands.

Guernsey Air Display organiser Barry Neal said a decision is likely to be made tomorrow as the vintage aircraft, which include a Lancaster Bomber and Hurricane, may struggle to fly safely in strong cross winds.

The forecast is for windy weather and blustery showers on Wednesday, with local thunder and hail. Fewer showers are expected on Thursday, the day of the display.

Jersey's Alex Buesnel has won a gold medal in the London Gymnastics competition.

He won the all-round disability gymnastics competition, competing alongside some of the best in the world.

The event in Westminster sees able-bodied and disabled athletes compete alongside each other.

Buesnel performed in six disciplines, achieving the highest total score.

A Jersey lawyer who plans to marry his partner says he will now have a civil partnership after a delay in the laws on same-sex marriage being introduced.

Alan Stirling says it was disappointing to hear about the delay but they've sent the invitations out now and booked the wedding venue.

"As much as it's a little frustrating, a little annoying that it's taking longer than expected," he told BBC Radio Jersey.

"I think the general hope would be that when the legislation is ready and it's put before the States then it should hopefully be almost a formality that it's put through."

Restrictions on drone use have been put in place by the Director of Civil Aviation for the Channel Islands ahead of air displays in Jersey and Guernsey later this week.

The use of small unmanned aircraft is prohibited in Jersey between 13:00 and 18:00 on Wednesday 13 September and again between 12:00 and 18:00 on Thursday 14 September.

The restrictions, external do not apply to those who've obtained prior permission from Jersey Air Traffic Control.

Another Asian hornet's nest has been found in Jersey, in a garden on Wellington Hill.

It's thought to be the second larger "secondary nest" to be found in the Channel Islands. Three smaller nests have already been discovered in Jersey.

The Environment Department says it will remove and destroy the nest as soon as possible, but it is difficult in today's weather conditions.

It's reminding the public the hornets are harmless to people but do pose a possible risk to honey bees, which is why it's asking for help in spotting the nests.

Organisers of Thursday's air show in Guernsey are sweating on whether the vintage aircraft planned to take part will make it over, given the poor weather forecast.

Here's a little about the flight's history:

• The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was formed on 11 July 1957 by Gp Capt Peter Thompson, a former Battle of Britain Hurricane pilot
• He set about collecting and preserving examples of the main aircraft involved in the conflict to honour the RAF's defence of Britain against German attacks at the end of 1940
• The BBMF has 12 historical aircraft, including a Lancaster - one of only two left flying in the world; the other is in Canada
• It also has a Dakota, six Spitfires, two Hurricanes, and two Chipmunks, which are used for training
• The flight has been displayed or flown at thousands of events as a tribute to those who served in the RAF

An exclusion zone will be put in place in and around Jersey's St Aubin’s Bay for the 2017 Jersey International Air Display.

All water craft, including jet skis are not allowed in the area on the practice day, Wednesday 13 September, between 14:00 and 18:00, as well as the afternoon of the air display on Thursday 14 September, between 12:30 and 17:00.

There is no restriction on people wanting to view the display from their vessels in the marinas.
