    BBC News Online

A representative of the finance sector in Guernsey has come out against State-owned airline Aurigny's decision to cancel its services to London City Airport from 27 October.

David Oxburgh, Chairman of the Guernsey International Business Association, said the route was "vital for the industry" and hoped the States of Guernsey could find an alternative provider.

The Committee for Economic Development has said it is already approaching other airlines.

    Quote Message

With roughly half the employment taxes coming from those working in the finance sector this rather smacks of killing the goose that lays the golden egg. Hopefully the Committee for Economic Development can see the benefits of supporting an operator on this route under a public service agreement and will be able to act quickly to address this.

For example, the use of Virtual Reality in treating patients with phobias, or allowing architects to provide VR walkthroughs of a building, is transforming the commercial and consumer experience. This is commercially the right decision for Aurigny, but the Committee for Economic Development believe that marketed better and operated in a more efficient basis this route has the potential to be economically advantageous to Guernsey. As such, the committee is already talking to potential operators who may be interested in operating over this route.
