The International Energy Group company has submitted an application to the Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authority (CICRA) for a licence to generate and supply electricity in Guernsey.
The group says it wants to install generation systems that use Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technology across the island.
Currently States-owned Guernsey Electricity is the only supplier on the island.

A Jersey Deputy who was found to have breached the States code of conduct is "disappointed" by a States committee decision.
Deputy Andrew Lewis's conduct was investigated after he was accused of lying to the States and the Care Inquiry panel.
Members of the Privileges and Procedures Committee investigated what Deputy Lewis said about the suspension of former Chief of Police Graham Power nearly nine years ago.
He had said he had seen a Metropolitan Police report on the child abuse investigation, when he hadn't.
Deputy Lewis always denied lying and previously apologised if any politician felt misled.
The Privileges and Procedures Committee still has to publish its reasons and the action it will be recommending to the Assembly.

Image source, Giles Corbin/FacebookA Jerseyman who suffered a "catastrophic" injury in a crash between a jet ski and a speedboat has shared positive news about his recovery.
Giles Corbin, 45, was a passenger on the jet ski at St Brelade's Bay when the collision happened last month.
Mr Corbin said there was initially a 90% chance of an amputation above the left knee, however he was pleased to say staff at the Salisbury District Hospital have given him "an excellent chance of retaining the leg."
He said: "The latest X ray looks very good - I could see four titanium screws in my femur, a wire ring around my patella (to hold it together as it was shattered as if by a hammer) and 15 screws and a vertical plate running up the side of my tibia.
"The surgeons here really have done a truly amazing job."
Mr Corbin is now walking on crutches, but is still unable to bear weight on his injured left leg.
He said physios were pleased with his progress, and he could return to Jersey as soon as next Friday if medical staff agree.

There won't be any services at Jersey's crematorium for two weeks while a new roof is installed, the health and social services department confirmed.
Work will begin to replace the 56-year-old roof on Monday 14 August, and although services will not be permitted, cremations will still take place.
The Crematorium, at Westmount in St Helier, is expected to resume normal service on Tuesday 29 August, after the bank holiday weekend.
Crematorium superintendent Peter Dobin said funeral directors and clergy were aware of the planned closure to help mourners make alternative arrangements during the two-week period.

More than 100 people protested at Alderney's Mannez Quarry last night against a £500m electricity cable link that could link Britain and France through Alderney.

John: Isn't this the same cable that would be used by Alderney to sell the electricity generated by their tidal wave power, if they get the technology to work over the next 5 years? I thought that some were holding that out as Alderney's future economic salvation! Odd state of affairs.
Maria: Perhaps before any of you comment you should read the background behind it and know that no electricity will be generated for Alderney it will go from France through Alderney and on the the UK.
Brian: Tell me what really is the problem with boosting the future income of the island, beats me.
Annie: How much of the Island is acceptable to be ruined? Is this a size appropriate development? We are tiny. There is no hidden part we can cram them in!
Chris: How many "youngsters" were protesting this evening? Seems to me the 'older' generation(s) are the main opposers. I may be wrong. Just a thought.

Guernsey Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash at a filter junction in the Castel.
It happened at the junction of the Rue Cohu and Route De la Charruee at about 18:00 on Monday.
Police would like to speak to the oweners of a grey Chevrolet and a small blue hatchback seen leaving the scene and heading towards Rue du Friquet.

Jersey's chief minister has been criticised over planned changes to the care system after a report into decades of abuse was published. , external
Deputy Sam Mezec, from the island's only political party, has refused a place on a panel being created to make the changes.
Chief Minister Ian Gorst said the panel would work to bring in all core recommendations as quickly as possible, including knocking down the former children's home Haut de la Garenne and modernising Jersey's laws around children.
Those expected to be on the panel are Deputies Louise Doublet, Richard Renouf, and Jeremy Macon and Constable Michel le Trocquer.
And until recently, Deputy Sam Mezec. But he's now published an open letter to the Chief Minister Senator Ian Gorst, turning down an invitation to be on the advisory panel, saying he'd rather scrutinise how the government brings about the recommendations.
The chief minister wasn't available yesterday to respond to Deputy Mezec's claims he badly handled the aftermath of the inquiry report.

The number of people visiting Guernsey has increased in the first half of 2017, according to new States figures, published today. However, the 4.7% rise excludes cruise ship passengers and visiting yachtsmen.
An extra 5,200 people visited Guernsey compared to the first half of 2016, including 1,250 extra business visitors.
The number of day visitors fell though, by 700, or 2.9%, during the first six months of 2017.
The cruise market suffered "a difficult second quarter" with a 20.4% fall in passengers coming ashore - blamed on poor weather restricting boat tender operations.
