A member of the Guernsey Motoring and Traders Association has said the Bailiwick must adapt if it is to accommodate the UK's blanket ban of petrol and diesel car sales by 2040.
Committee member, Robert Cornelius, believes Guernsey will have no alternative but to follow the patterns as countries look to introduce more environmentally friendly measures.
President for Guernsey's Committee for Environment and Infrastructure Barry Brehaut has said the island should benefit "significantly" from the changes.
Mr Cornelius says islanders need assurance that they will have ease of use with their electric vehicles in future.

Jersey Telecom has announced its customers will now be able to roam with a 4G connection.
It follows a reduction of their data roaming charges, in line with UK mobile networks.
However, the service provider is reminding customers to roam responsibly to avoid excessive charges.
Head of Commercial Development, Dominic Vye said this would mean customers would be able to download data at similar speeds to high speed broadband.

Tom Le Prevost from Guernsey's Vintage and Classic Tractor Club has been showing me his Massey Ferguson 35X.
It was brought from Scotland to Guernsey, he tells me, and is mostly used on the roads and at events like the Royal Show.
There are around 90 vehicles in the club.
So what does a tractor enthusiast make of the recent claim that a Guernsey vehicle could have beentwice started by lightning?
"If I'm honest I don't really believe it," said Tom, with a chuckle.

The latest figures published by the Department of the Environment show a 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in Jersey, according to the States.
A spokeswoman from the department said the switch to low-carbon French electricity, generated from nuclear and hydro sources, helped reduce emissions "significantly", as well as an increase in "energy efficient buildings" and better vehicle fuel efficiency.
They added emissions from homes, businesses and transport have held steady, despite an increasing population.
Annual figures are reported to the UK for Jersey's emissions, where they are verified and monitored as part of the international convention on climate change.
Minister for the Environment Deputy Steve Luce said he was "cautiously optimistic" about reaching the States target of an 80% reduction in emissions by 2050.

The mother of a Jersey lawyer injured in a jet skiing accident has said they are "lucky" surgeons managed to save his leg.
Giles Corbin, 45, was a passenger on the jet ski when it collided with a speedboat in St Brelade's Bay earlier this month.
He had three operations in the Southampton trauma unit before he was transferred to Salisbury Hospital for further treatment.
Felicity Corbin said Giles is "determined" to overcome his injuries.

Organisers of the Jersey Beer Festival say the parish of St Helier contributed to the event's cancellation this year by charging nearly £2,000 to use the People's Park.
In previous years CAMRA has paid a damage deposit for the site, which was refunded afterwards, but the organisation said this year the parish started with a demand for £10,000 administration costs, which it negotiated down to £1,700.
Combined with other costs, they say it was still too much for the local branch of the campaign for real ale, which cancelled this year's festival.

A former RAF serviceman who died in a light aircraft crash with another man has been honoured by friends and family.
Paul Gunnell, 57, from Guernsey, and Gordon Davies, 66, from Wiltshire died when their plane crashed into a field near Marlborough, Wiltshire, on July 13.
Rick Offord, a friend of Mr Gunnell, also known as PG, said he had joined the RAF in 1982 and "aced his way" through flying training.
He became a Harrier weapons instructor and ended his RAF service testing and introducing the new GR7 night capability.
After this, he joined international airline Cathay Pacific and flew with the company for 23 years.
Mr Gunnell's wife, Kirsty Boazman said: "The circumstances of Thursday's crash will be under investigation for some time but whatever occurred happened quickly.
"Paul was not alone and our thoughts are equally with the other family who have also lost a loved one, who shared Paul's sheer joy of being in the air."
A Jersey model for providing financial support to farmers may be rolled out in the UK, according to the States.
Recently, The Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Michael Gove, MP said farm subsidies would have to be earned rather than just handed out in future, with farmers only recieving payouts if they agree to protect the environment and enhance rural life.
This approach is compared by Deputy Steve Luce, Jersey's Minister for the Environment, to the States "Rural Support Scheme" being rolled out, which he says will provide financial support for rural businesses according to the environmental and social benefits they provide.
The deputy claims to have discussed the scheme with Mr Gove in Wales earlier this year, at the Royal Welsh Show.
The States aims to have all farmers signed up by 2019.

Staff at Howard Davis park in Jersey have been told to "use their discretion" when enforcing guidelines on bikes and ball games.
Derek Noble is the Manager of Municipal Services at the Department for Infrastructure, and was responding to complaints about park workers preventing a six-year-old boy from learning to ride his bike on the grass there.
He said there are no laws banning bike riding and ball games, but there are signs asking you not to do those things to try to keep the park safe and fun for everyone.

Levels of the gases linked to global warming have fallen by 40% in Jersey over the past 27 years, according to the States.
The Department for the Environment said Jersey's switch from heavy fuel oil to nuclear and water power has helped bring levels down.
Before the 1990s oil was burned at La Collette to make electricity, now the island gets power from the continental grid through undersea pipelines from France.

Tributes have been paid to two men who were killed in a light aircraft crash.
Paul Gunnell, 57, from Guernsey, and Gordon Davis, 66, died when their plane crashed into a field near Marlborough, Wiltshire, on 13 July.
Both men shared a "sheer joy of being in the air" and were passionate about flying, their families said.
Mr Gunnell's wife, Kirsty Boazman, previously described her husband as "precious and outrageously talented".
She said: "This cruel and unexpected departure has ripped a hole in my heart and existence. Paul was an exceptional man, my best friend, a natural-born leader and aviator who spent his entire career flying, amassing more than 17,000 hours privately and commercially.
"He died while doing what he loved most but it was not time to leave this life. We had much planned. I dearly love and so terribly miss my 'Captain'."
An investigation is ongoing into the cause of the crash.

Rebekah Le Gal, 39, from Mont Millais, Jersey has been given an 8 month prison sentence suspended for two years for causing the death by careless driving of three-year-old Clinton Pringle.
What happened:
A woman who ran over a three-year-old boy has been given an eight-month sentence suspended for two years.
Rebekah Le Gal, 39, from Mont Millais, Jersey, sent a text at the wheel shortly before the collision, a court heard.
Clinton Pringle was run over in Tunnel Street, in St Helier on 27 June 2016, and died three days later in hospital.
Le Gal admitted causing death by careless driving but was acquitted of causing death by dangerous driving.

As the judges continue their work at the Royal Guernsey Agricultural and Horticultural Society Show, compere Bill Luff is regaling the crowds with some milk-related stats.
I think it's safe to say what he doesn't know about Guernsey milk isn't worth knowing.
We've been told there are 1,532 Guernsey cows on the island at present.
There are also 1,081 heifers reared as replacements for the milking herd.
Each cow produces, on average, 6,337kg of milk in a 305-day lactation.
At roughly £1.26 per litre, Guernsey milk is more than double the average price than in the UK.

Jersey's Under-19s picked up their first win of the World Cup qualifying tournament with an eight-wicket victory over Denmark.
Captain Harrison Carlyon took three wickets for the hosts as the Danes were bowled all out for 59.
Carlyon then made 32 not out as Jersey reached the target inside 17 overs.

Colin Gleed, a visiting judge from the UK, is the man who's been tasked with judging today's livestock.
He has had some help from local judge Ann Roberts.
Speaking to BBC Radio Guernsey Mr Gleed described the Guernsey cow as "super nice", and praised today's showing.
Compared to other breeds he said Guernsey's was "nicer to work with" and "not as skittish".
