It will be dry tonight but the cloud will thicken, with some mist and murk along the coast. Compared to recent nights it will also feel cooler and fresher. Minimum temperature: 13C (55F).

Wednesday will start rather cloudy and murky but through the day we should see some good sunny spells developing. Maximum temperature: 18C (64F).

All mobile phone masts across the Channel Islands are being checked to make sure their emissions are within safe limits.

The Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities have set up the independent audit to make sure they meet international guidelines.

All masts complied with guidelines when they were last checked in 2013. The report will be published in September.

About 86% of all recent cases taken on by the Channel Islands Financial Ombudsman were outside of its mandate, set in law.

The CIFO has released performance statistics for the first three months of the year, which show 230 cases could not be dealt with.

Why? It could be the matter is being considered in court or the complainant may not have suffered any compensatable loss. There may also be multiple complaints about a single financial services provider, meaning it's out of scope.

Or, as in 90% of all "out of mandate" cases, the complaints related to "exempt financial services".

Guernsey directors are keen to support, external the States in dealing with some of the major issues facing the island which impact on business.

A spokeswoman for Guernsey States' most senior committee, Policy and Resources, has said there's "nothing we want to add" after criticism from a deputy over a lack of support for a new inter-island ferry service.

The decision not to financially underwrite a new service was taken recently by two political committees and not subject to a States-wide vote.

Deputy Matt Fallaize suggested that all deputies should have a say on the matter.

An inquest has found a Polish farm worker may have fallen and drowned in the sea off Jersey.

Lukasz Czekanski had been in Jersey for two weeks when he died. His body was found on the beach at St Ouen's Bay by a dog walker on 18 January 2016.

An inquest concluded that the 34-year-old died from drowning, with some evidence to suggest he may have fallen.

The group that aims to resolve complaints about financial service providers in the Channel Islands has released its data for the first three months of 2017.

Some 313 complaints were recorded in the period by the Channel Islands Financial Ombudsman, on top of it investigating an existing 246 cases.

The majority were closed - either through successful mediation, or, in the vast majority of cases, due to the complaint being outside the mandate of the CIFO.

Of the complaints, 57% came from the Channel Islands, 14% from the UK, and 29% from elsewhere.

Missing bags from British Airways and EasyJet flights from Gatwick have now been reunited with their Jersey owners, airport bosses say.

Jersey Airport said there was disruption at the airport on Monday due to fog, which did cause some delays to air services. However, it added that the majority of flights to and from the island did eventually operate, although later than planned.

Passengers who were caught up in earlier cancellations because of the BA computer failure either travelled on later flights or re-booked to travel today.

BA said it was continuing to work to get delayed bags to customers as quickly as possible and information on how to report and track delayed bags could be found on its website, external.

A leading independent aviation expert says Guernsey should extend its runway.

John Strickland advises airlines and airports around the world. He said it would lead to cheaper fares and increased visitor numbers.

In principle, plans to extend have been cleared for take off following the recent publication of the island's Policy and Resources Plan.

An anonymous base jumper who parachuted from La Collette flats at the weekend did not break any laws, the States police have said, external.

For the first time in Jersey, rank and private cabs will have to charge the same price.

From July this year, there will be only three set fares. Private cabs can charge extra for a home pick-up but have to let people know what that is.

Deputy Eddie Noel, the minister responsible for Jersey's taxi system, said there would be a day, night and special holiday price, such as at Christmas.

He's due to meet drivers, who have threatened to strike tomorrow, later to talk about pay and working conditions.

There were significantly fewer complaints from Guernsey Water customers about an earthy or musty taste last year compared to the year before, the utility says.

The findings have been released in its 2016 report. , external

In 2015, there was a spike in the number of complaints about the taste and odour of the island's drinking water, caused by algae dying off in reservoirs. There were 39 complaints then, but in 2016, Guernsey Water said it was was contacted just 28 times.

Jersey's Tax Office will be closed to the public on Mondays and Tuesdays until September.

The head of the department said it was so staff could cope with tax returns, which had to be handed in on Friday.

Its hours have already been reduced once this year, in January, after it was claimed that more and more people were dealing with their tax affairs online.

It will open from 09:00 until 14:00 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, managers said. People would also still be able to get advice by phone or email, they added.

A review of the States of Guernsey's strategic housing target has been delayed due to the late publication of a review of the local housing market.

This and several other projects the Committee for Employment and Social Security is working on have also been delayed due to a lack of resources.

The committee was also due to report back on progress made to date on protecting women against discrimination. And a proposal of a secondary pensions system for Guernsey and Alderney has also been delayed nine months. This will now not come back before the States until September 2018.

In its recently-released policy and resource plan, the committee said it hadn't progressed various projects but intended to do so "when resources became available".

Two teenagers in Jersey were allegedly assaulted by a man while they were sitting on a bench at Liberation bus Station in St Helier.

Police said they were looking for witnesses after the boys were grabbed last Monday at about 10:38.

They said the suspect was a man in his mid-30s, who was wearing a grey hoodie and shorts.

Plans to build an additional 800 new social houses at a cost of £73.3m. have been unveiled by Employment & Social Security, external.

More than 1,000 Aurigny passengers faced disruption or cancellations to flights yesterday due to fog.

Some of them only returned back to Guernsey this lunchtime, arriving by boat on Condor's liberation vessel from Poole, after being put up overnight.

The government-owned airline said the weather forecast had originally shown the poor conditions to clear yesterday morning, but this did not happen, making it difficult to plan.

A spokesman for the airline said: "We apologise to all passengers for the inconvenience caused by the weather disruption."

Guernsey's drinking water has reached a "high standard", according to the island utility's Quality Report , externalfor 2016.

The quality of supplies was rated as "excellent", with 99.91% of 6,866 tests meeting all UK and European Union standards, compared with 99.84% in 2015.
