Parents with children at La Moye School have received letters following concerns about the head teacher being off sick and high staff turnover.
Image source, GoogleThe head teacher is off sick and questions were asked in the States about the high rate of staff turnover at the school.
The education department has written to parents to reassure them and the Minister, Deputy Rod Bryans, said a plan was in place and they'd responded quickly to ensure the school continues.
He said: "The important thing for people to realise is that when the head is poor or a teacher is off sick there is a plan. The director has been up to speak to people already."

Jersey's government should consider relaxing Sunday trading laws according to the chief operating officer of the Channel Islands Co-Op.
Mark Cox was speaking a year since Guernsey completely deregulated Sunday trading legislation.
He said: "Personally I feel it is right for the consumer to choose. If they want to shop on the Sunday they should be able to shop on a Sunday. It is time for them to be reviewed.
"There is a great opportunity to watch how it goes in Guernsey and learn from how it goes in Guernsey."

An amendment looking to bring stamp duty to the same level across commercial and residential properties has been defeated in Jersey's States Chamber.
The budget amendment, which was drafted by Deputy Richard Renouf, was rejected by 25 votes to 17.

The resignation of Deputy Marc Leadbeater from the Committee for Education Sport and Culture will come before the States of Guernsey in January.
The island's politicians will be asked to elect a new member of the committee in his place on 11 January 2017.
In a brief letter of resignation to the Bailiff, Deputy Leadbeater says following the vote of no confidence he thinks it would be "best for the States to decide the membership of the committee going forward".

The Diocese of Winchester still has no intention of publishing the controversial Steel report, which examines the actions of the Dean in a safeguarding case.
The Bishop of Winchester, Tim Dakin, effectively suspended Bob Key as Jersey's dean after a vulnerable person made a complaint about him. The bishop commissioned a report on what happened by Dame Heather Steel.
It's understood she places no blame on the Dean, and effectively exonerates him from any wrongdoing - but the bishop refused to publish it.
A spokesman today confirmed that the news of the Dean leaving Jersey would not change that position - and the diocese would not comment further. Jersey is now under the office of the Bishop of Dover.

The newest member of Guernsey States says he's disappointed by a move to unseat the current Education Committee.
Vale Deputy Neil Inder was one of the 19 who voted in favour of selection.
He believes it's far too early to judge the committee, and thinks what's happening is more about personalities than performance.
The Committee for Education, Sport and Culture has three days to decide whether to resign or face a vote of no confidence.

Jersey's Environment Minister has given Jersey Water an exemption to its rules on nitrate levels, allowing them to have more in drinking water than was previously allowed.
Concerns have been raised that the levels in our water are too high. Deputy Steve Luce says the exemption was necessary to maintain a supply of water for domestic purposes, but did not pose a danger to people's health.
The exemption lasts for five years.

Jersey's Dean, the Very Reverend Robert Key, has been praised for his work in the island by The Rt Revd Trevor Willmott, Bishop of Dover.
He is leaving the island on 28 February to become part of the Archbishops’ Evangelism Task Group helping as an advocate between cathedrals and larger churches for events as part of the national initiative 'Thy Kingdom Come 2017'.
The Rt Revd Willmott said: “During his time in Jersey, he has been instrumental in helping to build the confidence of our church, both in its witness and service of the wider community.

A quarter of Guernsey's annual disaster and emergency aid budget is being spent to help people in the war-torn country of Yemen.

It's estimated that seven million people are in desperate need of food in Yemen. Without additional emergency aid, it's thought the country could run out of food by April next year.

A scrutiny panel is reviewing the level of nitrates in Jersey's water.
The Environment Minister is due to publish a five-year Water Management Plan in a bid to improve Jersey's water quality. It will set out steps the island needs to take to ensure clean and sustainable water supplies.

Politicians reacted to the news of the Dean of Jersey, The Very Reverend Bob Key's resignation in the traditional manner - with loud foot stomping.
This led to him saying: "I can't tell if the foot stamping was in celebration of my departure or support of my service. I will take it as the latter and thank members for their support over the years."
He will leave on 28 February to take up roles with the Church of England nationally after serving as Dean in Jersey for 11 years.

Politicians have accepted calls to limit the increase on duty by a maximum of 1.5% for alcohol after more than four hours of debating.
They rejected the second part of the amendment to limit the increase on fuel duty and so that will increase by 4.3%.

Deputy Russell Labey wanted members to vote to limit the increase in duty because it would have impacted heavily on the tourism and hospitality industry.
Members voted 24 in favour to 17 against the alcohol amendment and 20 in favour to 22 against the fuel change.

A severely injured seal pup rescued by Guernsey's animal shelter at Petit Bot on Saturday has died.
After two days of intensive care, the shelter says the grey seal succumbed to its injuries during an operation to try and save the animal.

The GSPCA is asking islanders to keep an eye out around the coast and if they spot an injured seal, not to touch it, and to contact the shelter with details of its exact location and condition.

A new public access defibrillator has been installed at the Crabbe shooting range in Jersey thanks to donations from local groups.
