    The States of Jersey are "carefully considering all available options" following the court's decision that the impounded dog, Mr Bronx, is a pit bull.

    A spokesperson said: "Our approach to restricting the importation of certain breeds of dog is no different to that of many jurisdictions around the world, including the UK and France."

    This weekend a dog walk supporting the release of Mr Bronx back to his family was attended by about 200 people.

    Sark's top government committee - the Policy and Performance Committee - says it is "disappointed that there is a significant shortfall of candidates to provide for a contested election".

    The 12 people who have already put their names forward will now form part of the Chief Pleas, while a further election will be needed to fill the remaining five empty spots.

    A scrutiny leader has challenged Jersey ministers to be brave and set a higher minimum wage in the island.

    Deputy Andrew Lewis says they have missed a trick by agreeing to set a minimum of £7.18 per hour - which is 2p less than in Guernsey and the UK.

    He says the island needs to look ahead, and pay its workers more for its own economic good.

    Most importantly, he says, it's important that people should be paid enough so they and their families aren't condemned to a life of working poverty.

    Questions will be asked in the States this week about how Jersey customs deal with certain breeds of dog coming into the island.

    Earlier this month a court case ruled that a dog called "Mr Bronx" was a Pit Bull, a banned breed in Jersey.

    He's now being cared for at the island's animal shelter until a decision is made about its future.

    This week Deputy Tracey Vallois will ask the Home Affairs minister how many similar incidents have happened over the past five years.

    She also wants to know whether customs has enough resources to deal with them.

    Nominations closed on Friday, meaning those who put their name forward will gain a seat in Chief Pleas uncontested.

    The vice president of Guernsey's Education Committee believes there's a small majority of politicians in favour of stopping selection at the age of 11.

    States members will consider the future of secondary education this week with an attempt to focus debate purely on whether or not to retain the 11-plus.

    Jersey Reds head coach Harvey Biljon has praised his side's efforts after earning a losing bonus point at Championship leaders London Irish.

    The islanders have numerous injuries, with nine of their 15 backs out as well as a number of their pack.

    The family of impounded dog "Mr Bronx" says the turn out for the beach walk in support of their beloved pet was "outstanding".

    Jason Gomes said it reminded him how lucky the family are to be "surrounded by such a caring community".

    Earlier this month a court decided that Mr Bronx was a pit bull - a banned breed in Jersey - and confiscated him from the Gomes family.

    Mr Gomes says there are nearly 4,000 signatures on a petition supporting the release of Mr Bronx.

    A Guernsey Deputy has described a number of emails he's received from teachers about the 11-plus as "arrogant" and "very aggressive".

    Castel Deputy Richard Graham is stressing it only applies to a small minority of communications, but he says a few have "bordered on bigotry".

    He says it's disturbing that education is in the hands of people he describes as having "closed minds".

    The minimum wage in Jersey is set to go up by at least 3% after an annual review by the Employment Forum suggested a rise of 21p.

    Deputy Sam Mezec wants to raise it by 23p instead, which would take the total hourly rate to £7.20, but the Jersey Farmers Union say that would lead to some farmers being forced out of the industry.
