Ethiopia's Human Rights Commission has condemned a wave of arrests of journalists.

At least 19 media workers have been detained, which the government-affiliated rights body has called "unlawful".

Maaza Mohammed, an editor of a YouTube channel that has been critical of the government, was among those arrested on Saturday.

She spent more than a month in detention late last year when Ethiopia issued an emergency decree in connection with the civil war in the country's north..

The mass arrests began last week, coinciding with the launch of what authorities have called a "law enforcement operation" in one of the country's regions, Amhara, where more than 4,000 people have been detained in under two weeks.

The commission's head, Daniel Bekele, called the move "a new low" for a country that has often been accused of creating a hostile environment for independent media.

The head of the African Union, President Macky Sall of Senegal, has expressed "grave concern" at rising tensions between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

Each country accuses the other of backing armed rebel groups.

Mr Sall appealed for calm and urged both sides to resolve their dispute through dialogue.

On Saturday Rwanda said two of its soldiers - Élysée Nkundabagenzi and Ntwari Gad - were being held captive in eastern DR Congo by the Rwandan Hutu FDLR militia, which it says gets support from Kinshasa.

Earlier, DR Congo suspended flights to Rwanda and summoned Kigali's ambassador - accusing its neighbour of backing M23 rebels, who it now officially designates as terrorists.

The M23 have also been excluded from the Nairobi peace negotiations between the Congolese government and numerous militia groups fighting in its eastern region.

A local civil society leader said people were murdered in their homes with machetes.

The Congolese and Ugandan armies have been conducting joint military operations against the ADF in Beni since November last year.

A statement by Orange County's district attorney says 26-year-old Ramy Fahim, who's being held without bail, is facing the death penalty for stabbing to death a co-worker and his roommate on 19 April.
