    The 13th annual Spring Fling is claiming to be "another record-breaker", bringing more visitors and income to Dumfries and Galloway than ever.

    The contemporary visual art and craft open studios weekend in Dumfries and Galloway welcomed a total of 13,200 unique visitors, some 55% of them from outside the region and 30% from beyond Scotland.

    Together they spent £1,430,000 on art, craft, accommodation, food and drink - a 2% increase on 2014.

    A piece of music composed for the new Borders Railway will be performed at Selkirk's Victoria Halls - the day after the Queen hears its debut at the line's official opening.

    Lament and Flourish, written by local composer Christopher Achenbach, is scored for wind quartet and Border pipes, and will be performed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra on Thursday 10 September.

    After a fine end to the day with late sunshine, thickening cloud will bring rain across the Borders overnight, with winds freshening towards morning.

    A cloudy, wet night is in store in Dumfries and Galloway as showers push in across most parts, heavy at times with a risk of thunder.

    His Ralphy Boy won the 4pm race at a price of 5/1.

    The request has come from Ettrick and Yarrow Community Council.

    The rural body is seeking a review of "the whole process through which the decision appears to have been taken by SBC councillors".

    The latest milestone in the Selkirk Flood Protection Scheme will see a new 90-metre long footbridge lifted into place next week.

    The steel and timber structure will be transported to Selkirk on Wednesday 2 September in three sections and then lifted into position over the Ettrick Water on Thursday and Friday.

    The new crossing will replace the previous Bridge Street footbridge, and will link South Bridge Street to Bannerfield.

    Duns locals are invited to a meeting this week to discuss the town's involvement in a resilient communities initiative.

    The meeting in the Black Bull at 7.30pm tomorrow evening will explain more about the scheme, which enables volunteers in communities to be organised to respond to emergency situations such as severe weather, fire, power failure and other major incidents.
