Many care homes around our region are preparing to allow visiting to restart after a change in government coronavirus guidelines.
The government has been criticised over its guidance on safe visits to care homes in England, with Labour and a number of charities describing the suggestions, including floor-to-ceiling screens, designated visitor pods and window visits, as impractical.
Eothen Home in Whitley Bay plans to install a plastic-screened booth to allow families to meet indoors.
The home hasn't had any Covid-19 cases so far and hopes the booth can keep residents safe as well as allowing family contact.

Wil Cheung captured the seals at the Farne Islands - this year the pups won't be sprayed and will instead be counted by the use of a drone.
The National Trust said it was something they had trialled in recent years alongside their ranger team as it "vastly reduces" disturbance to the seal pups during a crucial time in their development.
Image source, Wil CheungA spokesperson said: "Covid-19 has meant we are working under different conditions and counting with our team in the colony is difficult to do while keeping social distance."
It looks like all the region's firefighters came under attack on Bonfire Night.
Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service said its crews were attacked, verbally abused and had fireworks thrown at them last night.

There are calls for legal action to be taken against contractors who haven't finished the refurbishment of the Tyne Pedestrian Tunnel.
South Tyneside councillor Gladys Hobson claimed that Maspero Elevatori have “used every excuse in the book” to avoid finishing the long-overdue works.
At a transport committee meeting yesterday, she said “we need to look at some kind of litigation” against the lift engineers, who are responsible for the one remaining aspect of the tunnel’s refit – the installation of two new inclined glass lifts.
When the Jarrow to Howdon crossing was reopened in August 2019 after being shut for six years, local officials said that the inclined lift works should be completed the following month.
But that target date was missed and has kept slipping back ever since, with Maspero workers not having returned to Tyneside since January due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

The entire tunnel refurbishment project is now more than £10m over budget.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service has attempted to contact Maspero Elevatori for a response.

Image source, GoogleThe National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) is calling for jail sentences to be handed to people who attack emergency service workers.
It comes as firefighters across the UK have been attacked while responding to incidents on Bonfire Night.
NFCC chairman Roy Wilsher said: "While jail sentences have been increased from 12 to 24 months, we now need to see these imposed to send a clear message."
The attacks, branded "mindless" last night, included fireworks, stones and bricks being thrown at crews while they responded to callouts on what's described as the busiest night of the year for many services.
The NFCC said incidents were reported in Merseyside, Tyne and Wear, Scotland, Wales, Northumberland and Humberside.
It fears further crews will come under attack over the weekend.
Chris Lowther, chairman of NFCC's operations committee and chief fire officer for Tyne and Wear, said: "We need to see custodial sentences handed out - it is clear we need a deterrent which makes people think twice."
Image source, TWFRSQuote MessageAttacking firefighters is abhorrent, if one or two members of staff are injured on a shift this can result in fire appliances having to be taken off the road while other staff are called in.
Quote MessageThis leaves communities at risk if there is a major incident.
Quote MessageI am disgusted to hear of firefighters being attacked when trying to protect the communities they serve; ultimately saving lives."

Passengers could soon be using their mobile phones to tap in and out of journeys on the Tyne and Wear Metro.
The system's bosses are hoping to roll out smart tickets from next year with other products, like park and ride permits, available by 2025.
They have also set a target of scrapping payment by cash by the same time, though bank cards would still be an option.
Newcastle councillor Joyce McCarty told a meeting of the North East Joint Transport Committee’s Tyne and Wear Sub Committee she welcome the plans.
"Our technology was way ahead a few years ago and then we’re fallen back over the last few years," she said.

Metro operator Nexus said most passengers already used contactless payments to buy their tickets, rather than coins or notes.
Ms McCarty said it was "even more important when we don’t want staff handling cash which could carry infections”.

Newcastle City Council has voted to step in to help feed children during the Christmas holidays.
The local authority gave out thousands of packed lunches during half-term, after parliament voted against extending free school meal provision to help struggling families.
There was a massive outpouring of generosity from North East businesses, schools, restaurants and more to provide meals last week, on the back of a campaign led by Manchester United footballer Marcus Rashford.
And city councillors voted on Wednesday night to commit to preparing contingency plans for another free meal programme over Christmas, and potentially until next summer.
Image source, Newcastle City CouncilQuote MessageI wish that wasn’t the case, I wish we weren’t having to do that. But it is incumbent on all of us to ensure no child goes hungry in this city.
Quote MessageWe have shown that we can achieve that, and sadly I fear we may have to show we can do it again over the Christmas holidays.”
Councillor Nick Forbes, Leader, Newcastle city council
Thousands of smaller charities across the UK could cease to exist in the new year, experts fear, following a shift in the nature of giving.
Fundraising data and recent polls have shown a surge in donations to new NHS charities since March.
But campaigners say funds to a variety of grassroots causes are down, leaving many on the brink of existence.
The government issued a £750m bailout to the sector in April but there are now growing calls for more support.
