Six people have now been questioned over the death of a 42-year-old on Sunday.

Four residents at a County Durham care home have now died and a number of others have fallen ill with coronavirus symptoms.

Stanley Park Care Home in Stanley says it has isolated those affected to protect staff and others living there.

Care UK’s regional director Karen Morrison said: “I am very sad to report the deaths of four residents from our Stanley Park care home with symptoms that might suggest coronavirus.

"One died in hospital in late March, the others in the home more recently. Their families have been informed.

“I would like to send our thoughts and condolences to their friends and families.I would also like to pay tribute to the team members at this home who have worked so hard to care for these and other residents.

“The team at the home have all the necessary PPE. Any other residents showing symptoms of the virus are being isolated and nursed by a technique known as barrier nursing which enables us to deliver the care they need while helping protect colleagues and other residents from possible infection."

Staff at a school in Peterlee are helping to porvide PPE for the NHS.

Mr Bradley and the tech team at The Academy at Shotton Hall, are using the school laser cutter to make protective masks using polypropylene and acetate.

Mr Bradley said: "The materials were cut in B5, assembled in B3 and put together in B6 - social distancing at its best."

Gosforth resident David Hicks is "shocked but pleased" that Mark Hamill replied to his tweet.

One of the residents tested positive for coronavirus in hospital, the other died at the home with symptoms but without a test.

Manager Care UK confirmed a further resident is now is hospital and has tested positive and a number of others still in the home are unwell but haven't been tested.

Staff at other homes in the region have told the BBC they should be offered tests for the disease.

Wellburn, which runs 14 establishments across the North East, said it had bought its own expensive protective clothing.

The absence of testing brings anxiety for the staff as they can't know if they're bringing the disease in - or taking it back out, it said.

The NHS has started testing frontline workers and social care staff for coronavirus at a drive-through facility in Gateshead.

The centre in the Ikea car park is by invitation-only for staff who are self-isolating because they think they may have the virus or have a family member who does.

Initially there will be about 50 tests per day, rising to 300, with results back in two to three days.

An Ikea spokesperson said: "We are enormously proud of the NHS and proud to support them and the government in this small way. We will continue to support them in the best way we can."

Transport chiefs say they will maintain the reduced timetable as they await government help.

Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards has been helping out Northumbria Police.

As a former police officer himself, he reached out to the force to offer his time, and provided an extra set of hands to the resilience unit.

He's helped create hundreds of PPE kits which have been handed out to response teams and frontline officers, helping to keep them safe during the Covid-19 pandemic.

A boy from Hebburn has been making the most of his nights in isolation.

Tyler, 14, created this out of sparklers to show his appreciation for the NHS and key workers.

Newcastle's Tyneside Cinema is giving film fans the chance to access films while the venues are closed to the public due to the coronavirus outbreak.

It is one of a number of regional venues teaming up with the British Film Institute's streaming service.

BFI Player's subscription service is offering a free four-week subscription service along with a collection recommended especially for them by their local cinema.

Ben Luxford, head of UK Audiences at the BFI, said: "Everyone is feeling the impact of this crisis and we wanted to find a way to ensure audiences across the UK could still feel connected to their venues.

"What makes this offer to audiences really special, is their local venue programmers expertly creating collections of features and archive content especially for them."

Two men wearing black balaclavas left the scene in Hartlepool in another vehicle.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service has described a banner hung outside its main office as a "lovely gesture of support".

It is directly opposite the council HQ and so can be viewed by staff from the Great North Ambulance Service as they drive in and out of work.

Sunderland AFC's owner Stewart Donald has explained the decision to furlough staff and players, in an open letter to fans.

In a statement on the club's website he said: "We believe it is the best course of action for the club at this time.

"We will also continue to look at the suitability of all options being made available to businesses during this unprecedented period".

Donald added: "[The football club] is also looking into what we can do to help the wider community, while also ensuring that the club can meet all its obligations despite the absence of football.

"If this awful virus and lockdown persists, we are well placed financially, but we will continue to evaluate all options to ensure the club remains in the strongest position possible."

Cleveland Police is appealing for information after a flatbed truck was reversed into the front of a property in Hartlepool and set alight.

No-one was injured in the incident on Serpentine Gardens on Tuesday evening, but substantial structural damage was caused to the property.
