    John Surtees was famously the only man to win world championships on both two wheels and four.

    He went onto run a successful motor racing business in Edenbridge and bought the Buckmore Park karting circuit in Chatham.

    He died in March but this evening sporting legends and TV celebrities are paying tribute to his extraordinary life at a Motorsport Hall of Fame event in Epsom.

    Police are trying to find a Bexhill man, who's wanted for recall to prison.

    Mark Coleman, who's 23, was released early from a four-year term for attempted robbery.

    He's failed to attend appointments with his supervising officer since his release in August last year.

    Newhaven's Napoleonic Fort is to host an extraordinary choral happening this weekend.

    It's inspired by the experiences of WW1 conscientious objectors, some of whom were interned in a nearby camp.

    Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Steve Sidwell has penned a new one-year deal with the club.

    The 34-year-old joined Albion for a second spell in January 2016, initially signing on loan from Stoke City.

    He made the move permanent last summer, and was a key part of the club's promotion-winning Championship side last season.

    Manager Chris Hughton said: "Steve has been a key member of the squad over the past 18 months. He thoroughly deserves this new deal and I am delighted that he is extending his stay at the club.

    "Our fans know his qualities well, and his experience, particularly at Premier League level, will be important for us. He is an excellent pro and that experience will be vital for us next season."

  17. Bodger and Badger creator Andy Cunningham dies after cancer battlepublished at 11:25 BST 7 June 2017

    Bodget and Badger star Andy Cunningham

    Entertainer Andy Cunningham, best known as the creator and star of children's TV show Bodger And Badger, has died aged 67.

    Cunningham played handyman Simon Bodger in the series and voiced his companion, a beret-wearing talking badger with a love for mashed potatoes.

    He died of cancer at the Royal Sussex County Hospital on Monday.

    The show ran on the BBC from 1989 to 1999.

    His sister Tessa Cunningham said: "Andy lived to be loved and to make people laugh - starting with me, his little sister.

    "He had a quicksilver brain, a rebellious attitude, boundless compassion particularly for the underdog, unstinting levels of generosity and, of course, a passion for mashed potato."

  18. Armed officers deployed at Sussex festivalpublished at 11:21 BST 7 June 2017

    Armed police officers are being deployed to this weekend's Wildlife music festival at Shoreham airport in the wake of the recent terror attacks.

    More than 20,000 people are expected on each of the two days, 9 and 10 June.

    They're being asked to avoid bringing bags to the event to help speed up access.

    Sussex Police says security around the site has also been stepped up.

    A pub in Shoreham was evacuated after a fire broke out last night.

    It happened at the Bridge Inn, in the High Street, just after 23:00 BST.

    The fire broke out in a cooling unit in the basement, but was brought under control in about an hour.
