  10. Farmer in tears after sheep killed in dog attackpublished at 17:11 GMT 1 March 2017

    Bob Dale
    BBC Live reporter

About a dozen sheep have died after a dog attack at a farm near Polegate.

It happened yesterday morning near the Cuckoo Trail.

Several of the sheep attacked were due to lamb.

Some of the sheep were killed by the dogs, with others so badly injured they had to be put down.

    Quote Message

I was crying as I had to shoot some of them as they were too injured to survive. It's not the dog's fault, it's the owners. I know people let their dogs off the lead but they should be able to control them."

    Peter Sandgrove, Farmer

    Quote Message

It's estimated the farmer will have lost around £3,000. The dogs were not seen close enough but it is believed they were one black dog and one tan coloured dog."

  19. A27: Highways England 'disappointed' at Chichester scheme cancellation published at 12:31 GMT 1 March 2017

    Ben Weisz
    Political reporter, BBC Sussex

This just in from Highways England, who were told yesterday by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling that he was cancelling their planned £250m Chichester bypass scheme.

    Quote Message

We are grateful to everyone who took the time to engage with our consultation last summer on improving the A27 through Chichester. We are obviously disappointed at this decision as the improvement would have brought significant strategic benefits to the region. But any improvement had to be right for Chichester and there was no overall consensus. We will continue to work with partners to monitor the route’s performance and to carry out any short term measures we can to help road users, the local community and the region.”
