    Bury St Edmunds, external head coach Ollie Smith says his side will be taking nothing for granted when they head to Henley Hawks in National League Two South, external tomorrow.

    The Wolfpack have jumped up to sixth in the table after winning their last three matches.

    "We know every single team on their day can beat anyone so we can't underestimate anyone. We've fallen foul of that already this season and I'll be damned if it happens again," said Smith.

    "If we turn up with the right mindset then we are a match for anyone, but if we turn up and we're not on it that day then there's a good chance we'll get beaten.

    "It's the way this level of rugby seems to work - it's as much about the attitude and mental preparation of players as the actual on-pitch technicalities and tactics."

    Mariette Rix hopes striker Lizzy Wheelhouse (left) can continue her excellent form and inspire the Suffolk side to a win that would see them reach the summit of the East Premier League.

    Wheelhouse has six goals from her last four matches alone, and the Ipswich head coach has described her as being vital to the team.

    "She started the season playing in defence due to necessity," Rix told us.

    "She has lots of experience in that position and is technically very gifted.

    "But moving her back into the forward line has been beneficial to the team, due to her ability to create something from very little."

    Flying Scotsman will be steaming through the east of England on Saturday, much to the delight of locomotive fans.

    Its journey was cut short last month after it broke down in Peterborough.

    The famous locomotive will make its way from Norwich to Ely, then on to London via Cambridge.

    British Transport Police is warning fans to stay off the tracks and only watch or take photographs "from a safe vantage point".

    The company that operates the locomotive stopped publishing exact timetables for Flying Scotsman's journeys after several incidents involving trespassers on the tracks.

    Flying Scotsman was built in Doncaster in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway (LNER).

    In its time the locomotive set two world records for steam traction.

    It became the first steam locomotive to be officially authenticated at reaching 100mph (160.9km/h) on 30 November 1934, and then set a record for the longest non-stop run by a steam locomotive when it ran 422 miles (679 km) on 8 August 1989 while in Australia.

    It was retired from regular service in 1963 after covering 2,076,000 miles (3,341,000 km).

    Two people have been seriously injured after a car ended up in a tree, according to police.

    The crash happened on the B1124 Beccles Road at Holton, near Halesworth, just before 01:00.

    Suffolk Police, external said there were five people in the BMW 320 which had left the road on a bend and landed upside down in a tree.

    Two people have been taken to the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston.

    The road was closed for four hours while investigations took place.

    Not long after Ipswich Town confirmed that striker Ben Morris had agreed a new contract with the club, the Blues have also tied up midfielder Tristan Nydam to a long-term deal.

    Nydam, who turned 18 earlier this week, has enjoyed an impressive campaign with Ipswich this season, making 13 appearances in all competitions.

    The youngster has agreed terms on a deal that is due to expire in 2021, with the option of a further 12 months.

    Ipswich Town striker Ben Morris has agreed a new contract with the Blues.

    The 18-year-old's latest deal runs until 2019, with the option of a further 12 months.

    Morris, an England youth international, made his debut for the Ipswich first team earlier this season, as a substitute in the 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat at Crystal Palace.

    He's previously spent time on loan at National League side Woking.

    Plans to redevelop a 1930s lido would deliver a “sustainable future” for an “important historic site and valuable community asset”, according to planning officers.

    The proposal to restore Broomhill Swimming Pool in Ipswich will be discussed by Ipswich Borough Council's planning committee, external next week.

    The 1938-built pool was closed by the council in 2002, but the new project would be run by leisure group Fusion Lifestyle, external, with funding of about £1m from the council.

    Under the plans, the Grade II-listed pool's water will be heated for the first time.

    Officers are recommending the plans are approved by councillors.

    The application will be discussed on 15 November.

    A hacking suspect fighting extradition to the US will challenge the decision later this month.

    Lauri Love, from Stradishall, near Haverhill, is accused of stealing data from US government agencies including the US central bank, Nasa and the FBI.

    The 31-year-old, who has Asperger's syndrome, is appealing against an extradition order signed last year by the British home secretary.

    His solicitor told BBC Radio Suffolk a High Court hearing is scheduled for 28 and 29 November.

    The Wolfpack will head to Henley Hawks on Saturday sixth in National League Two South, external, on a run of three successive victories.

    "Of course it [promotion] is realistic because, of the top four teams, we've only played one of them [Taunton], so there's still seven matches against the top four to come," said Smith.

    "All we can do is win the games we play and hopefully other teams will get wins against the top four, but it's still very much in our hands."

  18. Highs and lows for the booming bitternspublished at 11:43 GMT 9 November 2017

    It's been a booming year for bitterns at a Suffolk reserve.

    RSPB Lakenheath Fen, external, close to the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk borders, has recorded eight males - which live among reeds and can often only be recorded by their distinctive booming call which can reach more than 100 decibels.

    This is an all-time high for the reserve, which was created from fields 20 years ago, when there were no bitterns there.

    The creation of a freshwater reedbed habitat has seen numbers increase steadily over the years.

    It's not such good news for the wetland bird across East Anglia... there's been a slight drop in overall numbers on the Broads, The Fens and the Suffolk coast.

    The RSPB believes this is the result of a drier than average winter.

    This led to some reedbeds being too dry in the spring when the birds, which belong to the heron family, would be looking for nesting sites.

    Nationally, it's been a good year for the species, with at least 164 counted at 71 wetland and reedbed sites.

    The RSPB began surveying the numbers of bitterns in the early 1990s.

  19. New home for Ipswich's controversial Christmas treepublished at 11:12 GMT 9 November 2017

    Work got under way last night to put up Ipswich's "bauble tree" at its new home.

    Ipswich Central, external, the town centre management group, said it will put up a real tree on Cornhill.

    It means the artificial tree - made of aluminium globes and illuminated with LED lights - has now taken up residence outside the University of Suffolk, external on the Waterfront.

    The bauble tree spent five Christmases in the town centre, and came in for criticism - good and bad - from the public.

    The lights on both trees, and throughout the town, will be switched on from 18:45 on 16 November.
