  3. Recycling centres to close on Wednesdayspublished at 17:30 BST 6 May 2016

    Suffolk's household waste recycling centres will be closed on Wednesdays from 1 June, as part of a revised timetable of opening hours.

    The county council says Wednesdays are consistently the quietest day of the week, hence the decision. 

    Matthew Hicks, councillor responsible for the environment, says feedback showed the public wanted sites open for longer hours, "so from 1 June, all Household Waste Recycling Centres will be open for longer on Sundays, Bank Holidays and later on Thursday evenings during the summer months."

  4. PCC Tim Passmore says he's 'there to represent everybody'published at 17:13 BST 6 May 2016

    Tim Passmore, who's been re-elected to the position of Suffolk's police and crime commissioner, said he's "there to represent everybody".

    Speaking after he was returned to office with an increased majority, Mr Passmore (pictured right), added: "Regardless of how people voted, whatever your creed, your background, it's something I take particularly seriously.

    "I really do look forward to working with everybody and for all of you to hold me to account... as we go forward for the next four years."

    As we mentioned a little while ago, it's hoped that live streaming will be in place from a peregrine falcon's nest at The Mill on the Ipswich Waterfront within a month.

    If you're wondering how high the nest is off the ground, ornithologist David Lowe, one of those behind the project, says the nest is a "23-storey climb".

    He also told us egg-laying was completed around 25 March when a brooding period of more than 30 days began. The chicks are likely to remain at the nest for 35 - 40 days before taking flight.

    Ipswich Town, external head to play-off bound Derby County tomorrow, hoping to cause an upset and end Town's season on a high.

    After a summer of major investment, the Rams were many people's favourites for automatic promotion, but the highest they can now finish is fourth place. 

    "We'll try to upset the apple cart before the play-offs," said Town boss Mick McCarthy. "I couldn't believe they finished eighth last year. With the squad they've got and how much they've invested in it they should be in the top six."

    The group involved with the peregrine nest box project at The Mill, on Ipswich waterfront, have achieved their aim of securing funding for live streaming from the nest.

    Short-term a standard digital video camera has enabled David Lowe and Steve Piotrowski to monitor activity in the nest.

    But now David tells us the owner of Ipswich port has agreed to be the main sponsor, with real-time equipment likely to be brought into operation in the next three weeks.

    Ipswich Town, external manager Mick McCarthy has heaped praise on midfielder Jay Tabb (pictured left) who is leaving Portman Road this summer.

    The 32-year-old midfielder, who joined Town in 2013, has been told he isn't being offered a new deal when his current contract expires next month. 

    "He's been fabulous," said McCarthy. "Without playing all season he could've won the selfless player of the year award. He comes in and trains well and is a prime example to any young player, a fantastic character."

    Following the second count in Suffolk's PCC election, with second preference votes being distributed between Tim Passmore and Cath Pickles, the following results have been declared:

    Mildenhall Fen Tigers, external reserve Sam Bebee will miss tonight's National League trip to Belle Vue after breaking his wrist in Wednesday's defeat at King's Lynn.

    It's a massive blow for the 15-year-old who's been earning rave reviews after an impressive start to the season. 

    Chairman Kevin Jolly, said: "My thoughts and feelings go out to Sam because in the space of 10 days, two weeks, he's been on a high, scoring points and then he's sampled the harsh reality of speedway life."

    • Cath Pickles (Lab): 32,268 (24.68%)
    • Simon Tobin (UKIP): 22,094 (16.90%)
    • Helen Korfanty (LD): 11,726 (8.97%)
    • Terence Carter (Green): 7,501 (5.74%)

    Simon Tobin, Helen Korfanty and Terence Carter have been eliminated and a second count is now taking place.

  18. Motorcyclist injured in A14 crashpublished at 13:14 BST 6 May 2016

    The East Anglian Air Ambulance says a motorcyclist in his 20s was injured in a crash on the A14 near Nine Mile Hill and Newmarket earlier. 

    He was treated at the scene for a suspected broken arm and shoulder injury, before being taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge for further treatment.
