    News of a restoration project in Burton as the £1.3m revamp of Ferry Bridge, external is on course to finish in June.

    The bridge, which crosses the River Trent, external from the town to Stapenhill, opened in 1889 and replaced the ferry service.

    It's due to officially open in the summer once it's been repainted and the handrail and timber decking replaced.

    Stoke-on-Trent's food bank, external says it gave out more than 11,000 food parcels in the last year and over a third went to children.

    The Trussell Trust, which runs 17 centres across the city, says demand for its food parcels is up 6% on the year before. 

    The charity says the top three reasons for needing its help in the area are benefit delays, low income and benefit changes.

    Thousands of children in England started school underweight last year, according to official figures highlighted by MPs.

    Rising numbers of children do not get enough to eat, says the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hunger.

    "For a minority of children, the school lunchtime represents the only chance each day to eat something substantial," the group reported.

    The government said it was committed to an "all-out war" on food poverty.

    A Cheshire East councillor who quit the authority's ruling cabinet in a row over charity donations has said he has "total confidence he will be exonerated".

    Conservative Sam Gardner resigned yesterday after it emerged a company he was a director of didn't send donations collected at a music festival to the charity they were intended for. 

    Mr Gardner's released a statement saying he had no direct responsibility for the charity money.

    Earlier we told you about Averil Siegertsz who's concerned about her son Jamie, 17 - he has been diagnosed with a rare condition, Rumination Syndrome, external

    The diagnosis took several months, she says, because many doctors aren't aware of the condition and the solution is to "retrain" Jamie's brain to get it to keep food down - he can only keep water and diluted juice down.

    Averil told me time is running out with Jamie losing so much weight.

    The University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, external said in their statement that they've offered the family support - and a specialist can see Jamie in the next fortnight.

    It's becoming harder to find a parking space in Crewe, according to the town's visitors and workers who've spoken to BBC Radio Stoke. 

    They say the town's new leisure centre, external, which was built on a car park, has added to the issue.

    Cheshire East Council , externalsays more short-stay spaces will help boost local trade, and there are still plenty of longer stay spaces around the town for workers.

    A man has been charged with the rape of a Keele University student who killed herself while detectives investigated the allegations, police say.

    Elgan Varney, 32, of Wye Road, Newcastle-under-Lyme, is accused of raping Hannah Stubbs.

    The 22-year-old killed herself at her home in Stafford in August 2015. She was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, an inquest ruled last month.

    A girl from Staffordshire says she's looking forward to competing in the World Cheerleading Championships, external.

    Grace Preston is from Wrinehill near Betley and performs with a troupe in Coventry. 

    They will be competing in the team event in Disneyworld Florida next week.
