  3. Football: Full 90 minutes for Port Vale's Inniss on injury returnpublished at 17:48

    Port Vale's, external on-loan defender Ryan Inniss played 90 minutes for the club's reserves this afternoon as he comes back from injury.

    He's been recovering from a long-term knee injury and played in the 3-2 defeat against Bradford, his second 90 minutes for the reserves.

    A six-year-old boy from Stoke-on-Trent has proved doctors wrong by walking on his own for the first time

    Daniel Brough was born with a rare condition known as Charge Syndrome, which affects his heart, hearing, sight and balance.

    Two years ago he couldn't even sit up, but after daily physiotherapy he's started to walk.

    The authority's making the move to save an estimated £35m, external - it is halfway through the lease for managing the site, which it started in 1966. 

    From 31 October the National Trust will take over the running, with the council putting in £20.5m over three years towards maintenance and repairs.

    Port Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite has revealed he's got four parties interested in buying the football club.

    The Vale chairman put the League One side up for sale after their FA Cup exit at Exeter six weeks ago and said he "let the club down" by trying to run everything himself.

    It's the first time Smurthwaite has disclosed interest in a potential sale.

    Employment Minister Priti Patel has welcomed the news that fewer people in the West Midlands are out of work, according to the latest official figures.

    The Office for National Statistics, external said the number of people out of work in the region fell by 8,000 to 157,000 between September and November.

    A lane is closed on the A449 in both directions in Gailey between Gailey Island and the Station Drive junction, because of a pothole in the road.

    A community hall near Chesterton is expected to close because nobody can be found to run it.

    The Holly Road Centre in Crackley is one of 15 centres owned, external by the borough council which, in 2014, launched a review, external into their future. 

    It's been trying to encourage local groups to take them on, but nobody wanted to take on Holly Road's.

  12. Council handing back historic Staffordshire estate to save millionspublished at 16:00

    The Shugborough Estate is being handed back to the National Trust half-way through its lease to Staffordshire County Council.

    The authority says it will save an estimated £35m by giving up the historic home 49 years early. 

    The National Trust will take over management of the tourist site on 31 October.

  13. Football: Stoke City's 'oldest surviving player' passes awaypublished at 15:38

    Stoke City say former midfielder Stuart Cowden, believed to be the club's oldest surviving player, external, has died at the age of 90.

    They say he once played with Stanley Matthews in an FA Cup game in 1946.

  14. Man killed in fatal crash is namedpublished at 15:11

    A 32-year-old man from Nantwich who died in a crash on the A49 near Whitchurch has been named, external by police.

    Cheshire Police say Andrew Beddows' BMW left the road on Thursday night and hit a tree near Bradley Green - he died at the scene.
