    A yellow warning of snow has been issued from 00:05 on Friday to 18:00 on Saturday for Derby, Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

    During Friday, increasingly frequent snow showers already affecting parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England will extend across many other northern and western parts of the UK.

    Between 2-5cm of snow is likely in places in our region.

    Icy surfaces are also likely to be an additional hazard, especially overnight.

    There's a yellow warning for the whole East Midlands from 04:00 to 23:35 on Sunday.

    This could lead to road, rail and air travel delays, with the potential for vehicles to become stranded or public transport to be cancelled.

    Rural communities with limited access routes could become cut off.

    Police want to speak to them after an 86-year-old woman's bag was stolen in Chesterfield.

    The bag, which contained cash and a mobile phone, was stolen from the victim's walking aid, police believe, while she was shopping in Boots in Low Pavement on Tuesday 21 November.

    She might have been followed from a nearby branch of Santander.

    Cannabis plants with a street value of £27,000 were discovered at a property in Harworth today.

    Nottinghamshire Police said, external the front shutter to the unit at the insecure property was believed to have been damaged during an attempted ram raid earlier.

    Officers carried out searches and found 30 plants with a street value of about £27,000.

    A 32-year-old man was later arrested and remains in police custody.

    Shocking dashcam footage has captured the moment a swerving lorry crashed into a car on the A1 in Nottinghamshire.

    The driver, Craig Barlow, from Bridge Court in Newark, had been using his mobile phone.

    The 34-year-old clipped the front of a lorry, causing him to swerve and hit a barrier, before crashing into the side of a 46-year-old woman’s car on 8 August.

    No-one was seriously hurt, police said.

    He must under take 180 hours of unpaid work after being found guilty of dangerous driving at a trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

    He also been disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay a total of £1,085 in fines and will also need to pass an extended driving test when he is allowed to drive again.

    Six Second World War mortar bombs have been found in Costock.

    The items were uncovered by a building company in land off the A60 this afternoon.

    Nottinghamshire Police attended along with the bomb disposal unit to make sure the area was safe and the devices were safely removed.

    It's thought the bombs, which were 15in long, were filled with sand and would have been used in training.

    But the organisers of the contest - the Beard Liberation Front - have said the win ushers in a new era for political face fur.

    "Neither MP has anything like a full organic beard and is unlikely to be in demand to play Santa," organisers, the Beard Liberation Front said.

    "However both do represent a new generation of Parliamentary beard wearers."

    It's official. The East Midlands is home to the first Conservative winner of the Parliamentary Beard of the Year competition.

    Mansfield's Ben Bradley received just under 50% of the online poll, beating Edinburgh South Labour MP Ian Murray, who got 45%.

    Former Tory MP John Randall shared the award with Jeremy Corbyn (a seven-time champion) in 2012 but no Tory MP has been the outright winner.

    Mr Bradley and Mr Murray had swapped the lead several times in recent days but the 27-year-old MP - Mansfield's first ever Tory MP clinched it at the last minute.
