    A mother who set up a purpose built breastfeeding café in Nottingham has been shortlisted for a national award.

    Charlotte Purdie who opened The Milk Lounge in Arnold last year has been shortlisted for the young entrepreneur category for the Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards.

    The 23-year-old opened a second café in Beeston after she noticed a gap in the market.

    The winners will be announced in March next year at a ceremony in Glasgow.

    A 46-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a five-year-old boy in Loughborough, external.

    Police said the child was allegedly grabbed and pulled about 10ft from his mother as they walked along a footpath between Warwick Way and Braddon Road on Friday evening.

    The boy wasn't hurt but he and his mother were both shaken up. Police have appealed for witnesses.

    Derby City Council says it's had formal bids to run all 10 of the libraries it wants to hand over to voluntary groups.

    The bids have been put in by one charity - Direct Help and Advice, external - which has offered to take over the running of all of the libraries the council wanted to offload.

    The council will spend the next few weeks evaluating the charity's bids.

    A man has been arrested after an assault which left a 53-year-old man with a fractured skull.

    The victim also suffered a bleed on the brain when he was hit on the head with a baseball bat on St Albans Road in Nottingham.

    A 44-year-old man, from Bulwell, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

    Newark and Retford train services could be affected if members vote in favour of strike action.

    Virgin Trains East Coast staff are to be balloted for industrial action in a row over pay and conditions.

    The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union said poor conditions were being imposed on workers as well as changes to working conditions and sick pay.

  11. Man arrested over arson spree in Loughboroughpublished at 16:10 GMT 5 December 2017

    A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of starting fires at seven different locations, external in Loughborough last night.

    Police said the first fire was started in the middle of Belton Road at about 19:50.

    Over the next three hours, fires were started in Russell Street, Mill Lane, Bridgeland Road, Wolsey Way, Morris Close and Queens Road.

    The Russell Street fire caused damage to a block of flats and led to one person being taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

    Police said the man was arrested this morning on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and remains in custody.

    A jury has been shown a life-size replica of a severe head injury suffered by a rape victim who was attacked by a teenager in Leicester's Victoria park.

    The 3D print-out - compiled from CT scans of an area of impact on the woman's skull - was presented in evidence to Leicester Crown Court at the trial of a 17-year-old boy who denies attempted murder.

    The youth, who cannot be named because of his age, has admitted causing grievous bodily harm, two counts of rape, and stealing the victim's handbag in July.

    Prosecutors allege the teenager tried to "silence" the victim by using a paving slab to cause life-threatening head injuries.

    The jury of eight women and four men were shown a scaled-down model of the victim's skull and told a rectangular object appeared to have been used to inflict injuries - possibly a paving slab.

    The trial continues.

    Charlie Dunn, who lived in Tamworth, was discovered in a pool at Bosworth Water Park near Hinckley in Leicestershire on the first day of the school summer holidays in July last year.

    He was found two hours after being allowed to play unsupervised in the park.

    Charlie's mother Lynsey Dunn (pictured) had denied manslaughter by gross negligence but the jury was discharged and the court heard that she would now not stand trial for that allegation.

    Separately, the 28-year-old, from Tamworth, admitted two charges of child cruelty.

    The pair were told they will be sentenced on 20 December.

    The stepfather of a five-year-old boy found drowned in a pool at a water park has pleaded guilty to manslaughter by gross negligence.

    Paul Smith, 36, had denied any wrong-doing in relation to the death of Charlie Dunn at Bosworth Water Park but changed his plea part-way through the trial on Tuesday.

    A woman from Nottingham has been given a new lease of life after her best friend donated his kidney.

    Nicola Rose was diagnosed with kidney disease five years ago and required seven hours of dialysis every day.

    But her friend Scott Christian stepped in to help and Nicola had the transplant on 18 October.

    She said: "I look at him differently now, we have known each other for 10 years but now I look at him as my angel and lifesaver.

    "For somebody to give you that lease of life you just can't put it into words."
