Northamptonshire's RSPCA, external branch said an American bulldog called Chunky had been "starved" by its owner and weighed 50lb (23kg) when he came into their care:

After a month, the RSPCA, external said he gained 22lb (10kg) and was a "healthy" 73lb (33kg):

The animal welfare charity is looking to re-home him, but said it has had a record number of bull-type breeds, which were not popular with customers.

Back at the trial of Edward Tenniswood, who denies raping and murdering India Chipchase in Northampton, the jury has heard more from the pathologist about the injuries found on Mr Tenniswood.

These included marks on his neck and forearm which have been described as consistent with those commonly caused by fingernails.

Under cross-examination at Birmingham Crown Court, Dr Michael Biggs said it was difficult to be sure how old some of the injuries were.

He also agreed that some of Ms Chipchase's scars could have been self-inflicted as they were "consistent with" the use of scissors, but he could not say for sure.

Mr Tenniswood, 52, of Stanley Road, Northampton, denies the charges.

The trial continues.

The district commander for Daventry has written a lengthy open letter, external to residents about the "recent trend of criminal damage to car tyres" in the town and happening "especially on Southbrook".

Sgt Sam Dobbs wrote that "since 21 May 2016, there have been 51 offences of tyre damage reported", which included 38 on Southbrook.

Sgt Dobbs also says "a member of staff here at the police station had to report late for work last week having had all four tyres ruined, without the kind of ready access to funds to replace them."

He goes on to say the police will be stopping uniformed officer patrols in Daventry and instead "will be deploying plain clothes officers on bicycles and in cars overnight".

The owner of Peterborough United, Darragh MacAnthony, has taken to Twitter about the sale of Harry Beautyman to Northampton Town.

The 24-year-old midfielder signed a two-year deal with The Cobblers for an undisclosed fee, but MacAnthony has indicated it is more than they paid Welling for him in 2014 and that, should he be sold on from the Cobblers, Peterborough would get a cut.

Page continued: "He is a lively character and a player who has a decent amount of experience in League One. He is also a good age [24], who will get better and better, and I think we are signing him at a good time.

Northampton Town, external have signed midfielder Harry Beautyman from fellow League One side Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old has scored five goals in 45 appearances since joining Posh, external from Welling in November 2014.

He was not in new boss Grant McCann's plans and becomes the second player to swap Posh for Cobblers this summer, following defender Gabriel Zakuani.

The club said England second row Courtney Lawes will also be back for September after ankle surgery, as will prop Ethan Waller (toe) and back Tom Stephenson (foot).

While, wing George North should also be back for the opening match against Bath following his hamstring injury sustain playing for Wales against New Zealand.

However, it's bad news for flanker Calum Clark, who has been out for over a year with a complex shoulder injury, and the club say although he is training no immediate date has been set for a return.

Tributes have been paid to former Mayor of Rothwell Alan Mills, who has passed away.

He was a Kettering Borough Councillor and Town Councillor and also heavily involved in the Rowell Fair, acting as chairman and bailiff of the Rowell Fair Society, external in May.

He also sang on the 1980 hit (Do) The Hucklebuck by Northamptonshire band Coast To Coast.

In the first match of the series, Northamptonshire opener Ben Duckett scored 163 not out, securing victory for the Lions over Pakistan A.

The 21-year-old will be hoping for a similar display at his home ground. The game has just got under way.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds say the club and Wellingborough Town "will likely vacate" the Dog & Duck Stadium at the end of the 2016/17 season.

In a statement, Diamonds say the ground's landlord has "invoked a clause in the club’s lease which will force them to leave the site by 31 May 2017".

They say both clubs are "especially disappointed with this given the hard work which has been put into upgrading facilities".

Diamonds said they were looking for a ground share elsewhere, while Wellingborough Town said leaving the ground will be put the club's existence in doubt.

The MP for Corby and East Northants MP Tom Pursglove has raised the issue of last week's Oundle School bus crash in the House of Commons.

Nine children were taken to hospital after the vehicle tipped onto its side on Cotterstock Road in Oundle - all have subsequently returned home.

Mr Pusglove, a Conservative, said the crossroads require "urgent review" by Northamptonshire County Council.

He also praised the emergency services.

The jury at the trial of Edward Tenniswood, the man accused of murdering 20-year-old India Chipchase in Northampton earlier this year, has been hearing evidence from Home Office pathologist Dr Michael Biggs.

He described more than thirty fresh injuries including abrasions and bruises on Ms Chipchase. 

Dr Biggs said some may have been caused by the victim falling over after consuming alcohol, but the bruises around the neck were consistent with pressure being applied.

A post-mortem examination concluded the cause of death was pressure on the neck.

Dr Biggs also the amount of alcohol in her blood was about three times drink drive limit.

Mr Tenniswood, 52, of Stanley Road, denies rape and murder and the trial continues.
