  2. Northampton trampoline coach 'honoured' to be leading women's team to the Olympicspublished at 17:50

    Northamptonshire Trampoline Gymnastics Academy coach Tracy Whittaker-Smith has been selected as head coach for the Great Britain trampoline team at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

    She has already spent three years as GB Women's head coach, and guided them to the maximum two Olympic places.

    Whittaker-Smith, who is based at the Northampton Trampoline Centre in Moulton Park, said she was "thrilled" and "honoured" to be heading to the summer games in Brazil.

    Tonight Corby councillors will make a decision on a proposal to dip into the council's reserves this evening to turn the fourth floor of the Cube into usable office space.

    There are delays on the M1 southbound between junction 16 and 17 due to an accident.

    While on the A43 northbound there are delays between Baynards Green and Juniper Hill because of a car fire.

    Northamptonshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Adam Simmonds, said he is "not discounting" a "relationship" with the new Wootton Park School, which is planned for part of Police Headquarters site.

    However, Mr Simmonds, who will not be seeking re-election in May, told the Police and Crime Panel he has "no plans" for a role with the school which will open in September this year.

    Northamptonshire's Police and Crime Commissioner Adam Simmonds has told the Police and Crime Panel he would like to make a decision on the sale of Police headquarters "in February".

    The public consultation on what will happen closes at midnight on 7 February.

    Part of the site has been earmarked for a free school and Mr Simmonds told the panel he is "not just there to look over the chief constable's shoulder" adding that, "our schools should be palaces".

  14. Decision to close one county council care home rather than two 'changed last night'published at 14:48 GMT 2 February 2016

    The director of adult social care at Northamptonshire County Council, Carolyn Kus, says plans to close just one care home instead of two changed as recently as last night.

    It had been expected that two Olympus care homes would be closed to save £300,000, but it's been announced today that a consultation will start on closing just one, Ecton Brook.

    Thirty-four of the 46 beds at Ecton Brook are currently occupied.

    Northamptonshire County Council said in December it would shut two Olympus Care homes to save £300,000.

    But today they have announced they would only be closing one, Ecton Brook House.

    In what was a fairly quiet January transfer window for Northampton Town.

    As well as signing Danny Rose and loaning out full-back Evan Horwood to Grimsby, the only other piece of business saw the club extend the loan spell of Millwall midfielder Lee Martin until the end of the season.

    Northampton Saints second row Courtney Lawes is an injury doubt to face Scotland in England's opening Six Nations match because of a hamstring injury.

    Saints 20-year-old prop Paul Hill has a good chance of bring part of the game in what would be his international debut. The youngster has played only 15 games for Northampton.
