The soon-to-be new Turkish owner of British Steel has been speaking to the Financial Times, external.

The Turkish Armed Forces Assistance Fund (known as Oyak) reached a tentative deal to buy British Steel out of insolvency on Friday and plans to take over British Steel, which employs 5,000 people, by the end of the year.

The FT reports that it plans a productivity drive that could lead to several hundred job losses.

Toker Ozcan, head of the mining metallurgy group at Oyak, said the immediate focus would be to boost output.

He declined to comment on the scale of possible job cuts but said that productivity at the company’s main plant in Scunthorpe was “very low” compared with other European steel producers.

“I am not focused on headcount but on productivity,” he said, adding: “We will take productivity to where it needs to be.”

Work on the window, which will be constructed at Scampton Church, is expected to start next year, but £23,000 is needed to pay for its creation and installation.

The Revd Sue Deacon said the window commemorates 100 years of the church's connection to RAF Scampton.

She said: "The design is absolutely amazing. It's modern because we wanted to represent this generation. The sky is mainly blue but there are lots of panels with different colours which represents the crops that we grow in the Springline Parish which Scampton is part of.

"Scampton runway goes right through the middle, and then we've got the three iconic planes that flew from Scampton - the Lancaster, the Vulcan and, of course, the Red Arrows. They are on there together with the RAF badges. It's beautiful."

    Grantham Hospital sign

The move was originally brought in on a temporary basis because of severe staff shortages across the county.

Amanda Brunton, from Grantham, has told the BBC she called 111 in severe pain and and ambulance arrived at 19:00.

But Grantham A&E closed at 18:30 and she was instead taken to QMC at Nottingham, where there was a 12-hour wait to be seen.

She says: "I had no money with me. I was on my own and at 05:00 I was eventually seen and given pain relief. We really need our A&E back at Grantham."

The trust says it still has significant emergency care staffing issues and can't just reverse the decision.

A consultation is under way to help inform how the service will operate in the future, including options to downgrade the unit and turn it into a 24/7 Urgent Treatment Centre instead.
