    A 27-year-old man has been charged with GBH, external after another man suffered an injured ear during an assault in Broxtowe.

    Nottinghamshire Police said the 28-year-old was attacked in Beckley Road at about 00:25 on New Year's Day.

    The suspect, from Old Basford, has been remanded into custody.

    A fire on the roof of a city centre shop has been put out.

    It began when the air conditioning unit above White Stuff and Cath Kidston in Nottingham burst in to flames at around 15:00 today.

    Three fire engines were sent to Bridlesmith Gate and put it out before it could do any serious damage but they accidentally smashed the window of the nearby Cafe Nero in the process, fire station manager Christian Brown believes.

    A man who lost his wife and two children in a house fire in Collingham has been released from hospital.

    Justine Collison, 33, died in the Woodhill Road blaze last month along with eight-year-old Isabella and five-year-old Harvey.

    Gavin Collison, 34, suffered serious injuries in the fire, the cause of which is still being investigated by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.

    Three fire engines are currently dealing with an "incident" next to a city centre café.

    The crews were called to Tokenhouse Yard, next to Caffé Nero in Nottingham's Bridlesmith Gate at 14:56 today.

    A section of the street has been taped off and photos from the scene show a window has been smashed with shattered glass on the pavement.

    Lots of you have been commenting on the increasing cost of rail fares.

    Rail fares have increased by an average of 3.1% in England and Wales despite a raft of issues on the network in 2018.

    This is the moment firefighters saved New Year's "Eve".

    The curious horse, named Eve, was exploring a World War II gun emplacement and got stuck.

    Firefighters worked for four hours to free the mare, feeding her carrots to keep her calm throughout the rescue.

    Peter Torr, fire officer from East Leake station, who led the rescue, said: "It’s amazing how she managed to get through in the first place when you see how small the hole is.

    "Thankfully the gap was just wide enough for her to squeeze through and as soon as she realised she could get out she just walked straight through."

    Armed police officers have arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of making threats to kill, failing to stop and dangerous driving.

    They were called to Crew Lane in Southwell just after 10:30 today and followed a man to Mickledale Lane in Bilsthorpe.

    A crossbow was later found at a nearby property. Nobody was hurt, police said.

    Councillors are expected to approve funding to restore part of the Erewash Canal in Derbyshire.

    The money is part of the planning agreement for the development of 18 houses at Waterside Close in Sandiacre.

    Erewash Borough Council agreed a condition that £54,000 would go solely towards improvements to the lock close to the new houses.

    The Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust plans to excavate and repair the Bottom Lock chamber, next to the Lock Lane canal bridge.

    It also plans to clear and manage the canal corridor from there to the edge of the conservation area near to the Waterside Close houses. The total cost of the work is £91,000.

    The council will meet to discuss the funding on Tuesday next week.
