The man who oversees West Yorkshire Police says he'll be asking the government for more cash to meet the rise in Police officer's pay.

Earlier this month the government announced that police officers would get a 1% rise plus a 1% bonus.

But unions reacted angrily to the pay awards, branding them a real-terms cut, and the Prison Officers Association threatened industrial action.

There was also a warning from police chiefs that making forces pay for the increase themselves would put "financial pressure on already stretched budgets".

Susan Jowett, also known as Susan Catterill, 38, of Rothwell in Leeds was reported missing yesterday

She was wearing a blue jacket and blue trousers.

Susan, or anyone who sees Susan is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 703 of Thursday 28 September.

The family of actress Liz Dawn have released details of her funeral.

It will take place on 6 October at at Salford Cathedral at 14:00 and the TV star's family have requested that donations be made in her memory to the British Lung Foundation and Breast Cancer Care UK.

The actress from Leeds played Vera Duckworth in Coronation Street for more than 30 years, and died earlier this week aged 77.

Her family said in a statement that they are "devastated and heartbroken at the passing of our much-loved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, the incredible Liz Dawn".

There are delays of around 40 minutes this afternoon in Leeds according to First Bus.

They say that the delays are across the entire network as people try to get home from work for the weekend.

Sadia Ahmed was last seen on Monday in Batley but has been missing from her home near Bolton since 12 September.

Police say they think the 15-year-old went to Leeds City Centre after leaving her house.

She was wearing a khaki green thigh-length quilted coat with fur lined along the hood and a grey hooded top underneath.

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal said he is not afraid of losing his job.

The Owls lost 4-2 at home to cross-city rivals Sheffield United on Sunday and 1-0 at Birmingham on Wednesday.

Carvalhal has led the club to successive top-six finishes in his two full seasons in charge.

"I understand the fast-food nature of society but I don't feel pressure that if I lose a game something will happen to me," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

Police have launched an investigation after the discovery of a body close to Huddersfield town centre.

The body of a man was found at about 12:40 this lunchtime in bushes near Shorehead Sainsbury's.

Officers say that "enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances."

A ballerina who was the third British female to graduate from the Bolshoi Ballet Academy is to start her first UK tour as a professional dancer.

Tala Lee Turton, 21, graduated from the elite Moscow-based school last year after four years of intensive training.

She has secured a place at the Russian Astrakhan State Opera and Ballet Theatre and will be performing with the company in UK theatres from October.

Tala, from Barnsley, said dancing so close to home would be "extra special".

During her UK tour, which runs from 14 October to 7 December, she will perform in productions of Swan Lake, Nutcracker and Romeo and Juliet.

Police in York say they arrested three drunk drivers in one hour in the early hours of this morning.

The first arrest came at 04.40, when a BMW was spotted by CCTV, being driven suspiciously around the city centre and travelling the wrong way down one way roads.

The 21-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving after being found to be twice the legal limit. He currently remains in custody.

After further examination of the CCTV footage, officers realised the other man in the car had also driven the car through the city centre. They then arrested him on suspicion of drink driving. He also remains in police custody.

The third arrest was made at 05.30 when a silver Ford Ka was spotted by officers driving in the Scarcroft Road area of York, without any headlights on.

Officers stopped the vehicle and breathalysed the 26-year-old male driver. He was found to be almost three times over the legal limit.

He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and of "taking a vehicle without the owners consent" and currently remains in police custody.

Some good news this afternoon, 65-year-old Brian Locke has been found safe and well.

Schools in York are to receive the biggest funding rise in England, outside Bournemouth.

It's part of the new national funding formula.

Cash per pupil will rise by £700 to £4700.

A 44-year-old man from Rotherham has been charged with rape and sexual assault by the National Crime Agency as part of their investigation into historical child sexual expoitation in Rotherham

As part of Operation Stovewood, external, Darren Hyett, from Broom Chase, Rotherham has been charged with three counts of raping a female under 16, two counts of raping a female over 16, two counts of sexual assault against a female under 16 and the trafficking of persons for sexual exploitation.

Hyett also faces one charge of perverting the course of justice.

To date, a total of 26 men have been arrested and Hyett is the ninth to be charged.

The investigation currently has more than 80 identified suspects and is in the process of engaging with more than 200 victims and survivors.

A fresh appeal has been launched to find a vulnerable 72-year-old woman who has been missing for almost three weeks.

Cathryn Holdsworth from Halifax hasn't been seen since 8 September when she left Calderdale Royal Hospital, she was then picked up by CCTV a day later at Tesco in Halifax town centre.

Police say that they now think she went home to Illingworth on a bus that evening, but she wasn't reported missing until 19 September by her neighbours.

She was last seen wearing distinctive pink earmuffs, a dark coat, pink gloves and using her walking frame. Police say she maybe in Cornwall, Blackpool or Brighouse.

You may have read this morning that, among other things, the Northern Powerhouse Partnership want the government to invest £1bn on "portable nuclear reactors".

Who knew they were a thing?

We thought we'd better find out about them - so what are they and can you charge your phone with one on the train?

Well, the first thing you need to know is that they're smaller than your usual nuclear energy plant, for example Heysham nuclear power station in Lancashire occupies an area of about 315,000m².

A portable nuclear reactor, is just around 23m long, small enough to fit onto the back of a lorry.

A single one would never provide enough power to light up an entire city like Leeds, but the idea is you can link a few of them together and then collectively they'd be sufficient.

The only thing is, no one's built one yet and this is what the Northern Powerhouse is saying, the north should be at the front of the race to get smaller, in a nuclear kinda way.

But unfortunately it means you can't take one in your pocket to keep your phone topped up.

Police are warning female students in Leeds to walk with friends and stick to well-lit routes at night after three separate attacks on three 21-year-old women.

They all happened in the Woodhouse area over the last two weeks. Two students were sexually assaulted and one was robbed.

On Tuesday a woman was walking home across Woodhouse Moor after a night out when a man came up to her, grabbed her by the wrists and pushed her against a bus stop. She struggled free and carried on home only for the man to approach her again and grab her by the wrists and push her against a building.

She shouted for help and the man walked away and a passing taxi driver took her home - police have issued an efit of a man they want to speak to.
