    Building work has begun on a new multi-million pound route between Castleford and Wakefield (much newer than the one pictured)

    It's part of a £60m project to build new routes for cyclists across West Yorkshire.

    It's hoped it'll encourage more people to travel to work by bike - and it'll also provide a connection to the Trans Pennine Trail.

    Do you know this man? Police want to speak to him after a bank card taken during the robbery of the house of a vulnerable man was used at a petrol station:

    Officers have already arrested and charged two men over the robbery in Gledhow on 14 August.

    Police say the bank card was used at the BP service station on Roundhay Road.

    A mum from Sheffield is raising major concerns over the safety of council houses in the city.

    Jemma Smith and her young disabled son were due to move into their new home on Deerlands Avenue in Parson Cross this week

    But as she was re-decorating her front room half her wall came off, she says the house is dangerous and uninhabitable:

    Sheffield City Council says it is dealing with the problem swiftly:

    "We sent a plasterer to Ms Smith's property the day after she told us about the problem, which is being fixed and will be complete by early next week. We have also given her more time in her old home so she does not need to move into the new one until this is sorted"

    A man-made beach has been installed for nursing home residents in Acomb.

    It might be missing the sound of boats in the harbour and the tide lapping against the shore, but the deck chairs are out and residents in Acomb are sunning it up.

    South Park Nursing Home installed the beach because a lot of their residents can't get to the coast to enjoy the beach.

  7. Former Bradford community councillor jailed for child sex offencespublished at 17:14 BST 1 September 2017

    A former community council leader, known for his work in Bradford's Trident regeneration scheme, has received a 17 year jail sentence for child sex offences dating back to four decades ago.

    Zamurrad Khan, 57 of St Luke's close, Little Horton, groomed and persistently sexually abused a 10-year-old boy during the 1970s and 80s.

    In a statement to Bradford Crown Court, Khan's victim, who's now in his forties, said the abuse "caused him physical problems" and in later years, led him to "severe drinking problems."

    North Yorkshire Police are holding a meeting in Kirby Misperton, near Pickering, to discuss policing issues around fracking in the area.

    It comes after it was confirmed that Third Energy will begin fracking before the end of the year.

    The community meeting will be held in the Village Hall at 17:30 on Tuesday.

  10. Fifth arrest over Shipley shootingpublished at 16:43 BST 1 September 2017

    Police have arrested another man after a shooting in Shipley on Wednesday.

    The 26-year-old man was arrested at a house in Bradford after the "violent incident" which involved a car crash and and a gun being fired on West Royd Drive.

    It's the fifth arrest in connection with the incident - Three other men who were in custody yesterday have been released pending further enquiries.

    Another man who was injured and arrested on firearms offences is still being treated in hospital.

  11. Woman who had double mastectomy in the running to be Miss Voluptuous 2017published at 16:23 BST 1 September 2017

    A York woman who has had a double mastectomy is in the finals of Miss Voluptous 2017.

    Tracie Steele was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, at the age of 34.

    She decided to enter the competition to raise awareness that cancer can affect people of all ages.

    The pageant is taking place this weekend in Cambridge, and the contestants have to make an eco-dress for one of the rounds.

  12. Doncaster sex offender has sentence doubledpublished at 16:09 BST 1 September 2017

    A Doncaster man has had his sentence doubled from eight years to more than sixteen years.

    Jason Armstrong, 52, from Moorends, was found guilty in June of sex offences against young girls after he made contact using fake social media profiles.

    Today his sentence has been increased by three Court of Appeal judges in London who said his original eight-year term was "unduly lenient", and upped it to 16 years and eight months.

  14. Northern rail strike - What you need to knowpublished at 15:42 BST 1 September 2017

    As we head into the Friday rush hour, it's well worth bearing in mind that some trains will be making their last journey earlier today because of the rail strike on Northern services.

    Northern staff walked out for 24 hours from midnight in a row over driver-only operated trains, there'll be another strike on Monday.

    The company says that it aimed to run more than 900 services during Friday and Monday's strikes.

    The majority of trains will run between 07:00 and 19:00 with services on some routes finishing earlier, with fewer trains on them.

  15. Royal Navy ship turns love boat for Sheffield man's proposalpublished at 15:35 BST 1 September 2017

    Royal navy Petty Officer Mark Titman, 34, from Sheffield got down on bended knee as the mine-hunter boat, HMS Penzance, external pulled into port after months at sea.

    Mark got down on one knee on the deck, while his crew mates held a banner which said "Will you marry me?".

    It was Mark's lucky day, his girlfriend Laura Campbell from Glasgow, happily said yes.

    The couple have a young daughter, Ava, who was just four weeks old when Mark was deployed to the Gulf in January.

  16. Motorcyclist dies in collision on A170published at 15:13 BST 1 September 2017

    A motorcyclist has died after a collision on the A170 on Thursday.

    The incident was reported at 14:00 by a passing motorist, who came across the motorbike at the side of the road between Ampleforth and Sproxton.

    The 51-year-old man from Middlesborough had hit a telegraph pole and was pronounced dead at the scene.

    North Yorkshire Police are now investigating the collision. They're asking anyone who was travelling between Helmsley and Thirsk that afternoon to contact them.

    Emma Cook has been reported missing from her home in Featherstone.

    The 15-year-old was last seen in Flanshaw and was wearing blue jeans, a grey hoodie and white trainers.

  19. Travel update: M62 westbound all lanes now openpublished at 14:14 BST 1 September 2017

    Good news the M62 is all reopen. Bad news, there are still 30 minute delays.

    There have been long delays on the westbound M62 near Huddersfield after an accident between J23 and J24 this morning.

    Eyewitnesses reported seeing two cars and two vans involved in the crash.

    All lanes are now open but queues still stretch back to J26.

  20. Hundreds of artworks to go on show in Ripon Cathedralpublished at 14:04 BST 1 September 2017

    The paint is dry and the pictures frames ready for the Great North Art Show, external which starts this weekend in North Yorkshire.

    The organisers have been busy hanging hundreds of artworks in Ripon Cathedral, and naturally we wanted a sneak peak:
