Nine years of working in coal mines destroyed Will Goddard's lungs, but with the help of a specialist clinic in Rotherham he was able to get a double lung transplant.

The head of a drugs gang who spent months on the run after skipping bail has been jailed for nine years and eight months.

Sonny Elms, 25, and his associates flooded Scarborough with heroin and cocaine between 2013 and 2014.

Elms, of Mansfield Avenue, Manchester, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply class A drugs in April 2016 but failed to turn up to be sentenced in February.

He was arrested in July and sentenced at at York Crown Court earlier.

The "bangers and clash" strip has gained notoriety on internet football sites.

It's even been tipped to win "worst kit of the season" award.

Campaigners say improvements to disabled access at Selby railway station "must become a priority" and the current situation is "stripping disabled people of their independence."

Wheelchair users arriving from Hull after 20:00 in the evening, can only get out of the station by staying on the train to Leeds and then coming back again, so they're on a platform with suitable access.

Transpennine Express, which runs the station says "increased accessibility at the station is a key priority", but the installation of lifts "will be "dependent on funding becoming available."

Officers are appealing for the woman to come forward to help with their investigation into an incident in Brighouse on Thursday 3 August.

Almost all teenagers who watch drama series Games of Thrones believe that the sexual violence in the story lines are accurate, according to research from Leeds Trinity University.

In the study of 16 to 18-year-olds at three Leeds schools, 90% of them said the scenes are an accurate representation of medieval history.

But Dr Kate Lister, a researcher in historical attitudes to sexuality and sex at the university says that the programme is effectively rewriting attitudes to sex in the medieval period.

She said "It was more barbaric and more unfair then, but rape was punishable by death".

Almost every named female character in Game of Thrones is either a victim of, or threatened with, sexual violence - Dr Lister added “The sexual violence portrayed throughout the series is actually very inaccurate"

Next week is the 20th anniversary of the film The Full Monty.

We've been back to some of the key locations in the comedy about the group of unemployed steelworkers who turn into a stripping troupe to raise some cash.

A couple of scenes were shot in Page Hall:

The Sheffield and Tinsley Canal, where Gaz, played by Robert Carlyle, and and Dave, played by Mark Addy, get stranded on top of a sinking car.

A seal spotted with a frisbee stuck around its neck has been rescued off the coast of North Yorkshire.

The RSPCA was alerted to the harbour seal on rocks at the bottom of a 200ft-high cliff at Ravenscar on Tuesday.

The team, helped by staff from Scarborough Sea Life Sanctuary, managed to pin the bull seal down and cut the ring-shaped frisbee off his neck.

Lyndsey Crawford-Darwell, curator of the sanctuary, said it was "almost cheese grated into his neck".

Ms Crawford-Darwell added: "When the guys got there it was about a 120kg seal which is pretty big. It took all three of them to pin him down."

She said the two to three-year-old bull must have got the bright yellow ring over its head when it was younger and it had wedged into its neck as it had grown.

"The area was cleaned up and made sure it wasn't infected and we thought it would heal nicely on its own, so we let him go and he moved off straight away," she added.

There's a fundraising campaign, external to create a lasting legacy about Working Men's Clubs.

The author Neil Anderson from Sheffield has written a book about the clubs and wants to apply to the Heritage Lottery Fund for cash to create an archive of stories and an exhibition.

People from a village near Harrogate have handed a petition in to the council in protest at what they say are plans to double the size of their village.

The Hands Off Hampsthwaite Village Action Group claim the proposed development of over 350 houses would destroy the heritage of the rural community.

A woman who threatened to "kill anyone" who evicted her from her council house set fire to it and blamed her ex-husband.

Cheryl McEwan, 34, poured lighter fluid over clothes and rubbish at the home in Glenfields Avenue in Deighton, Huddersfield, on 27 June 2016.

She blamed the fire on her ex-husband when police later found her in a bar.

McEwan was jailed for four-and-a-half years after admitting arson with intent to endanger life and other offences.

Leeds Crown Court heard two days before the fire McEwan telephoned mental health staff and said she would "attack and kill anyone" who came to evict her from the Kirklees Council property she was living in.

It's a go-cart challenge in which teams race down the very steep and winding cobbled hill.
