The first ever Selby Arts Festival is well under way in the town.

It's on for nine days and is described as an "explosion of creativity and culture".

Part of the festival involves transforming spaces and animating places, which is what appears to have happened here:

This creation was made in the festival takeover shop by members of the 154 Collective.

The group's made up of performers, painters writers, animators, dancers and musicians from West Yorkshire.

The "oldest carnival in Europe" is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary - and we want to hear your memories of five decades of this major festival.

The West Indian Carnival in Leeds, which was launched in 1967, will be held in Potternewton Park over the August bank holiday weekend.

An exhibition recording its heritage, political and cultural legacy is planned for the city's Tetley gallery.

The event, which attracts more than 100,000 people, will culminate in a parade through Chapeltown and Harehills.

Illegal cigarettes worth over £50,000 have been seized by West Yorkshire Police and Trading Standards.

A total of 62,860 illegal cigarettes were seized in Huddersfield at the weekend, along with 26kg of hand rolling tobacco, 219 illegal tobacco products and nearly £13,000 of cash.

The operation targeted a total of six premises in the town centre.

The funeral of a boy from Wakefield who died after suffering a head injury in an under-14s rugby league match has been held.

Evan Hawksworth was injured playing for Stanley Rangers RLFC against Batley Boys on 9 July and died in hospital later.

His funeral took place at Holy Trinity Church in Rothwell, West Yorkshire.

Evan's family said at the time of his death it had been a "tragic freak accident" and no-one was to blame.

A crowdfunding page to support the family set up by Stanley Rangers RLFC and the RFL Benevolent Fund has raised more than £25,000.

Trips by bike are increasing in York, new figures show.

The charity Sustrans says an investment programme to encourage cycling for shorter urban journeys has seen a 6% rise in the city - even though York already has high levels of riders.

The charity hopes the findings will help strengthen the case for investment in cycling and inspire and encourage programmes which get more people on their bikes in and around the city.

Earlier this afternoon we mentioned an appeal by police wanting help in finding a woman from Bradford who'd gone missing

Officers were worried for the welfare of Kelly Bradley, 39, who'd abandoned a 999 call she'd made to them in the early hours of Monday morning.

Happily, police say she's now been found:

A 48-year-old woman has suffered serious injuries in a crash in Sheffield.

The woman was hit by a car on Manor Oaks Road at about 11:30 this morning.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while being disqualified.

Police have increased patrols, external in part of Huddersfield after a car was used to damage another vehicle and several men were seen making threats.

It happened last night in Riddings Road in Sheepridge and occurred after a red Seat Ibiza was used to cause damage to a blue car.

The driver of a black vehicle which was travelling nearby then got out of their vehicle and threatened the occupants of the Seat Ibiza before making off towards Chestnut Street.

Det Insp Mark Atkinson says: "We are working to trace parties involved in the incident and are progressing significant lines of enquiry."

A swimmer takes on the World Championships after breaking a British 200m record.

Castleford's Kevin Larroyer is banned for two games for grabbing the testicles of an opponent in the process of making a tackle.

An investigation's under way in Huddersfield after a gun was fired at a house at the weekend.

Detectives are appealing for information after the weapon was fired in the Ghyll, Fixby, on Sunday night.

They're also keen to speak to anyone who might have CCTV footage showing suspicious activity in the street between 23:00 and 00:00 on Sunday.

No-one was injured but the door of a house was damaged, say police.

If you're desperate to get your hands on your York City season ticket, you'll face a bit of a wait.

A mum from Sheffield is campaigning to send her daughter to Europe for life-changing surgery.

Yasmin Dennett has a severely curved spine and requires a specialist procedure which is not currently available in the UK.

Created by the artist Lynn Setterington, they're celebrating the signatures of the famous Bronte sisters.

Members of the public are also being given the chance to sew their own signatures into the fabric.

The drop-in workshops in Haworth will take place on Tuesday 25 July and Tuesday 15 August 2017, external.

North Yorkshire Police says it's putting several measures in place in an effort to deal with an "unprecedented" increase in calls to the force's control room.

Councillors said they've been told of people spending up to six hours on the phone waiting to talk to someone from North Yorkshire Police.

Responding, the force says it's experienced a rise in the number of calls - particularly 999 calls – of about 20% since May this year.

The force says that on Sunday 18 June, for example, it received more calls than on New Year’s Eve, which is historically its busiest day of the year.

North Yorkshire Police's Deputy Chief Constable Lisa Winward says changes aimed at dealing with the rise in calls can't be "done overnight".

"We ask the public to please bear with us as we implement the improvement measures over the coming months," she says.

"Our control room staff are working extremely hard as we work to service the increase in demand and implement the changes."

A former West Yorkshire police officer and his nephew have become the first canoe team ever to circumnavigate Britain.

Colin Skeath, from Huddersfield, says they carried out the trip to raise money for the Forget Me Not hospice.

The pair spent nine weeks in their open canoe and travelled 2,500 miles (4,000km) clockwise around Britain.
