    North Yorkshire County Council says Downholme Bridge's structure has deteriorated during the winter and needs repairing.

    Work is due to start next month and will last until September, depending on the weather.

    It should have started earlier but the council delayed it because of a wedding taking place in Marske:

    Birds of prey nesting in Leeds are threatening the future of pigeon racing in the city, fanciers fear.

    Pigeon racer Simon Schofield said he believed 25 of his birds had been killed so far this year by raptors.

    The RSPB said birds of prey were increasingly nesting in cities and would naturally kill racing pigeons.

    But the charity said this accounted for only a small proportion of losses and many failed to return to lofts due to straying and collisions with buildings.

    Donations to a Barnsley woman who was injured in a moped crash in Thailand will be refunded.

    A JustGiving page was set up after Jenni Evans' family were told her healthcare and repatriation would not be covered by insurance.

    However, the firm has now changed it's mind, enabling Jenni's family to ask the charity site to return the cash.

    It means all donations will be returned to bank accounts within 5-10 days. Jenni's family have thanked everyone for their help.

    Police have released an efit of a man they want to speak to after a sexual assault in Knottingley, near Wakefield, on Sunday.

    It happened at 10:30 on a canal towpath under the bridge at Bridge Lane/Hill Top on the north side of the canal.

    A man came up to the woman and sexually assaulted her. He left when a woman walking her dog came along the towpath.

    Police have been appealing for the woman to come forward as she may have vital information to help them. She is thought be in her 50s and was walking a white and grey Jack Russell-type dog.

    Doncaster council has revealed that 169,640 illegal cigarettes and 54kg of tobacco were seized in Doncaster in 20016 - 17.

    The figures are being released to mark today's World No Tobacco Day.

    A man has denied murdering a 37-year-old who was hit by a car during an "altercation".

    Richard Broughton, died on 30 April, two days after he was struck by the vehicle in Welland Crescent, Elsecar.

    Reece Thompson, 25, also known as Kayne Reece Jones, of Christchurch Road, Rotherham, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court.

    He pleaded not guilty to murder and affray and was remanded in custody to face trial on 30 October.

    It's emerged fans who bought tickets to see Ariana Grande on 22 May from some online market sites may not be eligible for tickets to the benefit concert this weekend.

    Ariana Grande has offered free tickets to fans who went to her concert at the Manchester Arena where 22 people died after a suicide attack.

    Janine and her 11-year-old daughter from Bradford saw the performance and bought their tickets from GETMEIN!.

    But when Janine rang the company to order free tickets for the benefit concert,she says she was told she was not eligible.

    Ticketmaster, which own GETMEIN!, told the BBC it is currently investigating the reports.

  14. Update: Huddersfield bus crashpublished at 15:36 BST 31 May 2017

    A bus driver has been left with minor injuries after the double decker crashed on a Huddersfield street.

    The crash closed Westbourne Road in Marsh which was completely closed for a while.

    Police say that one side of the road has reopened and that there were four passengers on board at the time.

    It's the second bus to crash in the town this afternoon, the earlier one causing some damage to railings.

    Delays are expected on rail services heading out of Sheffield after a vehicle hit a bridge.

    It happened between Sheffield and Chesterfield and is causing delays of up to 20 minutes, expected to last until 16:00.

    Northern, CrossCountry and East Midlands Trains services are all affected by the disruption.

    A driver has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a crash in Sheffield city centre.

    Police say the black Seat Leon was driven away from police in the Division Street area before coming off the road at the Park Square roundabout.

    The woman driving the car and her female passenger were treated in hospital for minor injuries.

    The driver has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and other motoring offences.

    South Yorkshire Police say she is due to appear at court in the coming weeks.

    A horse rider from Bedale in North Yorkshire who was told she'd never ride again after injuring her spine in an accident has been chosen to take part in a charity horse race at York.

    Jo Ford had to undergo surgery to reconstruct the base of her spine after the accident some years ago and she also suffered cancer twice at the age of 22.

    To be accepted for the race, Jo had to take part in a five-month selection process and will now join 11 others in the event at York's Knavesmire to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support.
