    A man has been attacked with a hammer after a car hit him in Huddersfield.

    It happened in the early hours of yesterday morning when a 23-year-old man was walking along Cow Heys in Dalton.

    He was walking on the footpath when a grey Volkswagen Golf mounted the curb and hit the man. 

    The driver then got out of the car and attacked him with a hammer.

    The suspects then got back in the car and drove off.

    West Yorkshire Police are appealing for information about the incident

    Pods going at 600mph through a transpennine tube - that's the solution to our transport problems, according to a Californian company called 'Hyperloop One'.

    Their representative has been speaking at 'Buy Yorkshire' - the annual business event at the Royal Armouries in Leeds. 

    The system uses smaller carriages which travel more frequently than normal trains. 

    Working prototypes are already being tested in the US, a public trial is expected soon.

    There could be up to 50 hot air balloons in the skies above York this autumn.

    It's one of a number of plans in the pipeline for the city by Make it York for the next year. 

    The organisation, which promotes the city, is also looking at bringing the poppies, which once formed part of a display at the Tower of London to the Minster.

    Some of the biggest names in cyber security will be in Leeds on Friday.

    They'll be attending a seminar about ransomware and giving advice on how avoid it causing problems on your own computer.

    Ransomware caused chaos over the weekend all over the world seriously hitting organisations including the NHS.

    The seminar is open to anyone to attend and will offer advice to businesses who want to protect themselves.

  13. Community rallies around woman after car rolls in to housepublished at 16:54 BST 16 May 2017

    A York woman who jumped back into her car as it rolled towards a house is "lucky to be uninjured" according to police.

    It happened last night in Acomb when her Suzuki Celerio rolled back in to a house in Burnsall Drive.

    Luckily no-one was seriously injured and police arranged for the car to be recovered.

    People on the street were first on the scene and officers say that they rallied around with coffee and biscuits.

    A burglar who raided a Sheffield house and left behind one damning clue has been sentenced to four years in prison.

    Nathan Herbert, aged 41, formerly of Stradbroke Road in Stradbroke broke into a house in Intake in November.

    He took a number of items from the house as the residents slept upstairs, but he left behind a the stub of a rollup on the floor.

    Forensic officers were able to prove beyond doubt that he had commited the crime. 

    He was jailed for four years at Sheffield Crown Court.

    The tension ahead of Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town's Championship play-off semi-final second legtomorrow is already high.

    Wednesday could have midfielder Sam Hutchinson back and Striker Gary Hooper is likely to miss out again so Steven Fletcher is set to keep his place.

    Huddersfield will recall goalkeeper Danny Ward in place of Joel Coleman after he missed Sunday's goalless first leg.

    Ward aside, Town boss David Wagner will probably name with the same team.

  17. Sex assault retired Methodist minister to face jailpublished at 16:12 BST 16 May 2017

    A retired Methodist minister has been found guilty of indecently assaulting four boys after he tried to hypnotise them.

    John Price, aged 82, from Bedale in North Yorkshire abused the boys when he worked in York and Pocklington during the late 1970s and 80s. 

    Price was found guilty of all 13 counts of indecent assault on the boys who were aged between 11 and 17 years old at time. 

    He was remanded in custody and was told he will face prison when he is sentenced on 13 June.

  18. Arriva Rail North say strike day planned for 30 Maypublished at 15:59 BST 16 May 2017

    A further day of strike action is set to affect local rail services at the end of this month.

    Arriva Rail North, who run Northern rail services, says there will be a 24-hour walk out on Tuesday, 30 May in its long-running dispute with unions over driver-only operated services.
