A Roman camp has been discovered by surveyors preparing for the development of 500 homes in West Yorkshire.

A man who died while trying to rescue his youngest daughter from their house after an arson attack was a "brave hero", his wife has said.

Andrew Broadhead, 42, and eight-year-old Kiera died in the blaze at their home in Ash Crescent, Stanley, Wakefield on Wednesday.

Police believe an "accelerant was poured through the letterbox".

In a statement, his wife Sara said he saved her life and rescued their eldest daughter before going back in.

More now on the news that former actress Tracy Brabin has won the Batley and Spen by-election for Labour.

The other mainstream parties stood aside out of respect for the late Jo Cox, and turnout, at just over 25%, was extremely low. 

Despite a low turn out, Ms Brabin insists she does have a proper electoral mandate.

An armed gang tasered a man after car-jacking him in a Bradford street.

The 47-year-old man was attacked after four men in dark clothing, who were believed to be carrying weapons, pulled up behind the victim.

They were in a silver Vauxhall Vectra and demanded the man get out of his white VW Golf R at an address in St Matthews Grove.

One of the gang then tasered the man before the cars drove off towards Royd Street.

One of the men is described as being about six feet tall and of slim build.

He had short cropped hair and was carrying what was believed to be a machete.

He's one of the best referee's in football and he's a Yorkshireman of course!

Howard Webb will be on the BBC Look North sofa tonight talking about his new book Man in the Middle where he talks about his career, why he quit, and why he left his job in the governing body.

Howard has taken charge of some of the biggest games in football including the FA Cup final, the FA Community Shield and the final of the Football League Cup.

In 2010, he became the first person to referee the finals of both the UEFA Champions League and FIFA World Cup in the same year.

A motorist who was driving "like a lunatic" when he caused a crash which killed two teenage passengers has been jailed for seven and a half years.

 Rhys Baker, 13, and George Wharton, 14, (pictured above) died when Thomas McMeekin crashed into a tree in Morley, near Leeds, on 7 March last year.

The defendant and a teenage passenger were also left paralysed by the crash, Leeds Crown Court was told.

McMeekin, of Bruntcliffe Road, Morley, admitted dangerous driving.

Missing out on your regular rugby league fix? 

Well, Jamaica's Reggae Warriors, external are in action tonight in Wakefield.

Celebrating Black History Month, external, the team - which is mainly made up of West Yorkshire players - will take on Wales in an international friendly.

I went to meet them before the big match tonight at Belle Vue Stadium:

In Sir Norman Bettison's book, Hillsborough Untold, he claims he was "unfairly scapegoated" during his time as a South Yorkshire Police inspector.

Publishers said they hoped the contents would help "add to the narrative".

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) will "consider" any impact it has on its criminal inquiry.

The IPCC has requested a copy of the book, which will be released in November.

• The police watchdog investigating Hillsborough has requested a copy of a book about the disaster written by former West Yorkshire chief constable Sir Norman Bettison.
• Police investigating an arson attack which killed a father and daughter in Wakefield say the attacker will almost certainly have suffered burns
• Plans to close Wakefield's relatively new market hall and turn the site into a cinema and restaurant complex have gone on display in the city

A proposal to close Huddersfield's A&E department has moved a step closer after health groups voted unanimously in favour of the plan.

The proposal would see all emergency acute and high-risk planned care moved to Halifax's Calderdale Royal Hospital.

The Greater Huddersfield and Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG) want to push ahead with the proposed changes as soon as possible

Doctor Steve Ollerton, chair of Greater Huddersfield CCG, says the changes won't put lives at risk:

The decision was met with an angry response from campaigners and several demonstrations against the proposal have been staged since it was first announced.

A public consultation revealed 60% of 7,500 respondents felt they would be negatively hit by the planned closure.

A graffiti tagger has vandalised Hebden Bridge's Town Hall.

The graffiti first appeared during Tuesday night or early on Wednesday morning and police are keen to speak to anyone who can help them identify the culprit.

The building, which was at the heart of the town's flood recovery efforts and is run as a not-for-profit community centre, had the tag sprayed in seven different spots.
