  14. Council to decide the future of flood-damaged Hebden Vale Centrepublished at 15:58 BST 12 September 2016

    The future of a building and land in Hebden Bridge which was badly damaged in the Boxing Day floods, is being discussed today.

    The Hebden Vale Centre used to be a children's centre and was also used by the elderly, but after being seriously damaged it's remained empty. 

    Permission has been requested for it to be demolished.

    It is being recommended that it is handed over to the Environment Agency, with the possibility of it being made into a car park.

    A lovely warm and sunny afternoon across West Yorkshire. A little cloudier than yesterday, but we'll still enjoy plenty of sunny spells. A keen southerly breeze, this strongest on high ground. Temperature highs today of 22C (72F).

    It will remain dry tonight, with long clear periods and light winds. Patchy mist and fog may form in places later tonight, especially in rural locations. A mild and muggy night with lows of 15C (59F).

    Police are investigating a report that a brick was thrown through the office window of Labour MP Mary Creagh.

    The MP says in a tweet that her staff were distressed when they discovered it this morning and that there is no excuse for violence and intimidation in our democracy.

    West Yorkshire Police said they were called to the office, on Cheapside in Wakefield, following the incident. A force spokesman said the building was empty at the time the brick was thrown.

    Leeds has been named best city in Britain - and 26th in the world - for quality of life.

    In the survey by infrastructure consultancy, Arcadis, Leeds got high marks in health, education, income equality, work-life balance, low crime and living costs. 

    Leeds was the only city in Yorkshire to be featured in the report, which highlighted its role as the largest legal centre in UK outside of the capital and a leading retail destination.

  20. Is 7pm too late to get your post? Denby Dale street at 'back of queue'published at 13:34 BST 12 September 2016

    A single Denby Dale street, external is “at the back of the queue” when it comes to postal deliveries, says a woman who lives there.

    Judith Beckett, who lives at Thorpes Avenue, suggested to Royal Mail that other streets should take their turn for late deliveries after mail started arriving at random times - sometimes as late as 7pm.
