    The angry reaction to the possible closure of Huddersfield's A&E. We're live in the town where campaigners have protested at the plans to move the emergency department to Halifax, leaving the town with a hospital that only deals with planned procedures.

    Tonight it'll be dry with variable amounts of cloud. Minimum temperature -2C (28F) with a widespread frost and some fog patches. Light southerly wind.

    Tomorrow, we'll get fog patches which will slowly clear, leaving a dry bright start with sunny spells, clouding over through the day with some patchy rain later in the afternoon.

  5. West Yorkshire floods: The safety checks don't stop at bridges and housespublished at 17:12

    You'd be forgiven for thinking that once all the major structures have been checked after flooding, "That's it, everything's safe and we know what's damaged".

    But, as this graphic from Calderdale Council shows, it's not just buildings and other structures that need to be checked after flooding like that which hit the district just after Christmas.

  6. Police pledge over victims of human traffickingpublished at 16:59

    West Yorkshire Police say the boss of a Dewsbury bed-making firm who has been found guilty today of human trafficking is an example of how the practice will not be tolerated.

    Mohammed Rafiq (pictured, right), 60, of Thorncliffe Road in Staincliffe, employed large numbers of Hungarian men as a "slave workforce" at the now defunct Kozee Sleep in Ravensthorpe.

    Leeds Crown Court heard how staff at the site were paid as little as £10 a day.

  7. £600,000 fine for water company after sewage pipe burstpublished at 16:47

    Yorkshire Water has been given a £600,000 fine after a sewage pipe burst and killed hundreds of fish in a Wakefield lake.

    A main pipe burst from the company's Shay Lane pumping station in early October 2013 and left at least 860 fish dead - though the exact number is not known. 

    Water samples from the lake, which is stocked by the Walton Angling Club, confirmed the pollution was significant enough to be fatal to aquatic life.

  8. Leeds flood meeting 'very disappointing' - council leaderpublished at 16:28

    The leader of Leeds City Council says she's disappointed after a meeting with the Environment Secretary about the city's flood defences. 

    Judith Blake and all of Leeds' MPs met Elizabeth Truss this morning to discuss how to protect the city following serious flooding after Christmas.

    In the meeting, Ms Truss said the government remains "fully committed" to ensuring Leeds is fully protected and the city will have its first phase of new flood defences completed by next March.

    The Football League says it "regrets" the late scheduling change of the televised Championship fixture between Leeds United and Middlesbrough.

    Fans have expressed anger at the game being put back from Saturday 13 February to Monday 15 on social media.

    Leeds took legal action last month to prevent fixture changes after trying to ban TV cameras from Elland Road.

  11. Protest as bosses meet over future of Huddersfield A&Epublished at 15:35

    As health bosses gathered to speak about the future of Huddersfield Royal Infirmary's A&E earlier today, protesters angry at its proposed closure demonstrated outside.

    While the local NHS say it is no longer sustainable to run both Halifax and Huddersfield with a full range of services, I've been speaking to a man who says he wouldn't be alive today without the Royal Infirmary's emergency department.

  14. West Yorkshire floods: Truss hails 'constructive' meetingpublished at 14:45

    A delegation of Leeds MPs and the city council leader have met the Environment Secretary, Elizabeth Truss, to discuss the serious flooding which hit Leeds at Christmas.

    They asked her to guarantee further investment in flood defences. They also wanted her to make £3m available immediately so experts can assess what's needed.

    A former managing director at a Dewsbury bed firm is the first UK company boss to be convicted of people trafficking, external after being found guilty following a trial at Leeds Crown Court.

    Mohammed Rafiq, 60, of Thorncliffe Road, Staincliffe, (pictured, right) used to run Kozee Sleep from an industrial estate in Ravensthorpe.

    Rafiq's conviction follows that of Ferenc Illes and Janos Orsos, who were jailed last year after being found guilty of supplying Kozee Sleep with slave labour. 

    The traffickers' Hungarian victims survived on scraps of food, with up to 42 men living in a single two-bedroom house. Staff at Kozee Sleep, which supplied retailers including John Lewis and Next, were paid as little as £10 a day.

    More on the news that a Dewsbury factory owner has been found guilty of a human trafficking offence.

    Mohammed Rafiq, 60, of Thorncliffe Road, Staincliffe, Batley, was found guilty following a trial at Leeds Crown Court of conspiracy to arrange or facilitate travel within the UK for exploitation.

    Rafiq was accused of the offences at the former Kozee Sleep bedding factory in Dewsbury.

    He's been released on bail to appear at Leeds Crown Court on 12 February for sentencing, external.

    A West Yorkshire factory owner has been found guilty of exploiting immigrant labour in what's thought to be the first case of its kind.

    Mohammed Rafiq, 60, of Thorncliffe Road, Staincliffe,was accused of the offences at the former Kozee Sleep bedding factory in Dewsbury. 

    He was convicted on a majority verdict at Leeds Crown Court.

    He'll be sentenced next month.
