    Tonight may see a few showers at first, otherwise it'll be dry with clear periods and a minimum temperature of about -1C (30F) with a widespread slight frost.

    Tomorrow, there'll be a dry and sunny start, turning partly cloudy with scattered showers developing, one or two on the heavy side with the risk of hail and thunder.

    A new ballet for children will have its world premiere in Leeds this October followed by an extensive UK tour in spring 2016, Northern Ballet has announced, external.

    The Tortoise and the Hare is the latest in Northern Ballet's Short Ballets for Small People which already includes The Ugly Duckling, The Three Little Pigs and The Elves and the Shoemaker.

    The ballet has been created to introduce families and young children to live dance, music and theatre, the Leeds-based dance company says.

  5. Power cut affects 1,700 homespublished at 17:44 GMT 23 March 2015

    A fault on an underground cable cut off electricity to more than 1,700 homes in Leeds earlier today.

    The power went off just after 08:00 in the LS14 and LS17 areas of the city, according to a spokeswoman from Northern Powergrid.

    The firm had to switch its electricity supply through alternative routes on its network to cure the fault and power was restored within two hours, she said.

    Police in Leeds are appealing for information to help trace a 16-year-old girl who's been missing for two weeks, external.

    Caitlen Boyd was last seen on the morning of Monday 9 March when it's believed she was making her way to Leeds railway station to catch a train to Scotland.

    Caitlen's described as 5ft 11ins tall, with blue eyes and short blonde hair, though she does wear long blonde hair extensions. She was last seen wearing a grey tracksuit, blue body warmer, blue and white Nike trainers and she was carrying a blue holdall.

    BBC Travel reports two lanes are closed and there's queuing traffic on the M62 westbound between J25, A644 (Brighouse) and J24, A629 (Ainley Top), because of an accident.

  8. Homes flooded after water tower faultpublished at 17:21 GMT 23 March 2015

    A number of homes in Moortown have been flooded after a water tower overflowed earlier today, Yorkshire Water has said.

    A spokesperson for the firm says: "The tank was quickly repaired to prevent more water escaping, but unfortunately water has entered the homes of nearby residents and some will have to be temporarily re-homed.

    "Colleagues from Yorkshire Water are currently on-site liaising with affected residents to assess the damage and provide assistance with the clean-up operation."

  9. Barlow musical to premiere in Leedspublished at 17:05 GMT 23 March 2015

    A musical being written by Gary Barlow which is based on the story of the Calendar Girls is to be premiered in Leeds later this year.

    The Take That star came to Burnsall village hall in the Yorkshire Dales at the weekend to make the announcement.

    The musical - which is part of the celebrations marking the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire cycle race in May - will run for a month at the Grand Theatre in November.

    The Bantams are in Portugal on a warm weather training trip and will have 10 games to play when they return, starting at home to Oldham on Saturday.

    They're five points off the play-off places with a couple of games in hand.

    This is one of the latest pictures we have from Boston Spa near Wetherby where fingertip searches are now being carried out near the scene of an armed raid on a post office, external.

    The theft happened at about 09:30 this morning when what's believed to be two men in dresses and wigs entered the premises on High Street before fleeing with an unknown amount of cash.

    Police are still seeking the two suspects as well as a white Mercedes which was used in the incident.

  13. MP urges Kellingley decisionpublished at 16:13 GMT 23 March 2015

    Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford MP Yvette Cooper is meeting the Business Secretary this afternoon to press for urgent action on Kellingley Colliery.

    The pit, near Knottingley, is due to shut by the end of this year. But the government is still considering a potential bid for state aid, which would keeping it going until 2018.

    Mrs Cooper says the government needs to act fast, especially as 200 of the remaining 500 miners at Kellingley will receive redundancy notices in a couple of weeks.

  14. Food traceability 'critically important'published at 15:44 GMT 23 March 2015

    Sentencing the two men at Southwark Crown Court, Judge Alistair McCreath said: "The traceability of food products, here meat, is of critical importance in relation to public health.

    "If meat causes ill health then it is important that those responsible for investigating the cause of it should quickly be able to discover where the meat came from and trace it backwards and backwards and backwards to find where the problem lies and prevent the problem escalating."

  15. Suspended sentence for abattoir managerpublished at 15:42 GMT 23 March 2015

    Mr Boddy was sentenced at London's Southwark Crown Court alongside the slaughterhouse manager David Moss.

    Mr Moss was sentenced to four months imprisonment suspended for two years after admitting forging an invoice concerning the number of horses sold in a transaction on 12 February 2013.
